He is old , he lost it

Yet, he was the MOTM

in the 89min he was defending saving us from conceding

Moments later, he sealed the game.
Yeah, the effort is still there. He has never really got praise for his work rate because of the other stuff he is really good at.

Go too America Kev!!! Don't do a Gundo. :( Dont come back and become the guy everyone sighs when they see warming up to come on...

Its not right. You are City's greatest ever. Take a bow. Don't waste your last few years as a bit part player on City's bench.
His kids are all settled in school and have a life here, sometimes you also need to think of the personal side not just the professional.

Well if you read up on the recent reports, it seems Gundogan is staying due to triggering an extension and the club is pondering extending KDB by a year. That’s what I was referring to by ‘Keeping KDB and Gundogan’, following the previous page or so.

Imo we need more than 3 players to get back to the top. Guess we’ll see.
That's a good point on Gundo extending. I thought it was City's choice but I guess it is mutual. How many do you think we need and in what positions?

Love Kev but we really need to be moving on. We can only have 17 non-homegrown players. Those spots are too valuable to have players occupying them that can only contribute now and then.
Sentiment starting to creep in with a few posters now and it will cloud their judgement. No one wants to see Kev leave, he's been the best. He is not the player he was though and will probably never be again I feel. It's age, nothing else. More susceptible to injuries, extended healing times, loss of pace are all potential consequences. Now is the time to rejuvenate our ageing squad.

It's a hell of a wage for a 34yr old substitute.
It is, but we'd be saving £200k per week so it would be a good deal for the club imo.

There's no guarantees Kev will accept it of course, but if he does and can get himself fully fit, then he's still a great option to have, not only as a player, but to help the younger players too.

I get the feeling he would rip off our hand if it was offered, I think his family is well settled in the NW and I also have my doubts he could play 90 mins regularly even in the MLS.

Not sure if he is the perfect candidate for helping the young lads, Gudo or Bernardo would be far better in my opinion.

Also your not saving 200K, he will have to be replaced, say Wirtz did come, I would imagine he would be on 250/350k week,.

He has been trying to get fit from the injuries last season and this, but there were signs on Saturday that he's getting there. I thought he got better in the 2nd half and was still running at the end.

I do wonder if he thinks he has unfinished business in the CL and World Cup, so that may be in his thinking too.

Not sure if we'll get Wirtz, but i do wonder what Pep will do next season.

Do we remain ruthless or let sentiment dictate??

Best PL to do it for me, and as Pep belts on about, he should decide, albeit with realistic terms!
KDB has arguably been the greatest player to pull on our shirt but the sad fact he has declined so much in the last 18 months, not sure he however much a legend he is , he should be the one dictating a contract extension.

Sentiment has cost us badly in the last 12 months , I hope we have learnt our lesson.

A fit KDB who can come on in the last 15 minutes of games when we need to create something is an attractive proposition. Nobody loses that much talent. If he's willing to play a lesser role or even better, understands he has to earn his playing time again, then we should absolutely keep him

So we're going to use up a squad place for someone to come on for 15 mins now and then? I've said before Kev's been the best, but age is against him.

I'm not much of a US sports fan but even I've picked up on how 40 year old LeBron James is having a renaissance because the Lakers went out and got one of the best players in the world to play next to him, take a lot of the defenders focus away and let him conserve his legs.

KDB is not *that* old. Get some young players around him, pick and choose his matches, manage his game time and we could get another few years of world class play out of him IMO.

We only have 17 non-homegrown spots. It’s a waste to use one on someone that just comes on in the odd game for 15 mins, especially when at least 2 of those spots are likely to be goalkeepers.

And as a separate point, I’d prefer those minutes to be going to players that are the future. Players like Echeverri are going to be a much better use of those 15 mins here and there. We need to look to the future and not the past. Otherwise we end up losing exciting young players because we blocked them with a once world class player that is no longer that.

I’d rather keep pathways open and invest in the next era.

"KDB is not *that* old"

His body is shot, that's the issue, he has had numerous serious injuries and it's caught up with him.

Lebron is a freak who hasn't had the injuries KdB has had and has pretty strict load management during the regular season that lets him do what he does in the playoffs. Basketball also has the luxury of loads of sitting and in game rotation that football doesn't have.

Giving him a lower value contract to get him a testimonial and allowing him to keep his family situated is a wonderful gesture showing appreciation for what he's done, but is it worth taking the minutes he would get from a younger player who could otherwise offer us more.

I truly believe KDB just needs a whole offseason to recover and get his groove back. I don’t think he’s truly ‘washed’ as they say. KDB after injury has always taken a while to get going even during this peak years.

He's too old mate, that's the simple truth.
