1894 Singing Section vs Borussia Dortmund

I’ve said it in another thread. The idea was good and could have worked, but I don’t think it was advertised well. Most people didn’t have a clue that there was a singing section. The club didn’t push it and other than the post on here, I didn’t see anything about it.

If you’re going at the front as well, you’d need the entire block to be standing, which wasn’t going to happen.

I was quite a few rows back to the right and couldn’t hear the megaphone either.

I think this needs to be trialled again, but with the club more involved.

Wouldn't it be amazing if we had a big fuck off stand that was just for City fans, a new Kippax...well we can dream...

Moving into a block where the regulars aren't fussed about singing was a bit of a deal breaker unfortunately. When everyone sat down behind me at kick off I felt I had to sit down and it killed it instantly.

There is a correlation between noise and whether people sit or stand...for whatever reason. You don't have to understand it but you really can't argue against it.

As a regular in the NS in actually more concerned about the lessons to learn for the new stand, not that City listen or learn

I think we can argue against it - since the introduction of safe standing at the Etihad has the atmosphere got better or has it just resulted in people standing up and making no noise?

The people standing up who were standing up anyway before the rails?

I wasn't aware of this, but did wonder why there was a guy with a megaphone a few rows on front of us. Now I know, I'd say it was a complete failure, even a few rows back I couldn't hear him or them.

I'd agree that further back might be better, but songs generally start back there anyway, and spread forward, so don't think it made any difference at all to the normal games.

One other thing there were an awful lot of none regulars in there last night, "tourists" if you like, and many of them don't join in much.
I was there and heard rock all megaphone wise in el3

I'm wondering if the atmosphere in CL games is hindered by issues such as away fans in the home end?
Not last night, just the fact the Dortmund fans could be arsed and ours couldn't, whatever you think about the type of noise they create , at least they created some ours were more interested in the light show pre match.

I noted a few of these wearing their own clubs shirt.

There was 5 near me wearing Tigres UNAL shirts. Didn't help they were yellow either.

I don't think we can blame the club for targeting tourists for this one, nobody else wanted to go , there where still rows of empty seats everywhere .

A lad near me in the east stand tried to start a chant of you're loud but you're fucking shit. Which sadly didn't catch on.

Although the reply when Erling scored to them calling us shit was funny.

I found the Dortmund fans entertaining. I wish we could go away from home and have thousands of us singing in a second language.
Maybe we should learn You're fucking Shit in Spanish for the trip to Madrid?

:)

I would have but I totally refuse to pay £50 up front just for the chance of buying a ticket (For me and the mrs). Has that changed Do we still need to become members to buuy those tickets?

Problem is 1894 cannot see the difference between standing all game and actually making some noise, its seems to be deemed a real fan who contributes to the atmosphere the only pre requisite it to stand all game with your arms folded, no actual need to make any noise.
I can assure you that 1894 absolutely do know the difference. However, I totally agree with you that some fans do stand in silence with their arms folded and don’t contribute to the atmosphere. I don’t think there’s much any of us can do about that short of outright telling them to sing, but nobody likes being told what to do so that’s a non-starter.

I think where safe standing was introduced for the most part was where people were standing our vocal anyway. That's a positive of the north stand, hopefully it will bring in some people who are currently sat, want to be more vocal but feel it's too hard work where they are at the moment .....maybe

Well 1894 group, I expect a pile on to this post but I’d appreciate if you hear me out. Did you really think this plan through? As someone who has a season ticket in 315 this was a disaster. I have nothing against what 1894 group do and enjoy standing in the lower tier on most champions league games since I cannot bring my dad to night games usually.

Tonight in 315 with my 83 year old dad it did nothing but cause aggravation to the regular 315 seated match going fans.

We liked the flag waving etc before the game but then you need to sit down as it’s a seated part of the ground.

All the 1884 group did was stand up as if they were in safe standing section but this is a seated section.

After 10 minutes 1 particular fan would not sit down in front of our row and a 70 year old fan as well as my Dad could not see. After being asked to sit down he turned round and stated they were not real fans for not standing up the full duration of the game. I think saying this to a 70 year old who asked him to sit down is quite disgusting.

My Dad is 83 and finds it difficult to stand for any period of time but he is not disabled.

I may sound like a I’m moaning but I enjoy bringing my Dad who has been coming every game since the 1956 cup final.

Just think this through in future thanks.
Can’t you just sit in the equivalent of the Main Stand?

Yeah with safe standing at the back of the stand where it's proven to be the best place for songs to start and spread from. If only people saw that as a good opportunity for a vocal home end.

Credit to 1894 for giving it a go. It's pretty much thankless task based on the 3:1 ratio, as an example. That's the ratio of pages on here when we get beat compared to when we win.
