He played for Monaco and was the best player on the pitch against us 6 years ago at the age of 18 getting 26 goals in 40 games across all competitions including 6 in 9 in the champions league, also his record at european/world tournaments show his calibre.

People can slag other leagues off, ligue 1 is of course low on quality but likewise so are the majority of sides in the EPL outside of the top 4, I’m not having it that Mbappe wouldn’t have a field day against teams such as Bournemouth, Soton, Palace, Forest etc. and also your KDB shout who is obviously incredible and definitely up there as one of the best as of now but would he have the same numbers playing for Everton? His assist tally for a start would be nowhere near what it is now, would he also be able to roam around dictacting play without the likes of Rodri next to him, not a criticism of how great he is but it certainly helps doesn’t it.

Great players usually play for great teams (stating the obvious) which in turn means better players around them, leading to more set pieces, more assists etc. you can’t use playing for an ‘ideal’ team as a stick to beat a player with.

I’m all up for debate and willing to be proved wrong, therefore please take nothing personal and I’m not saying any of this with spite genuinely but calling Mbappe a one trick pony is silly, it’s just simply not true.

But all that side opinions are like balloon knots we all have em’ so as I say nothing personal up the Blues and happy remainder of Christmas and new year sir.
Brilliant post. The kid was 18 when he played a starring role in kicking us out of the UCL. Alvarez would go on to be a very good player...just not at the Mbapppe level and that's fine with me, he doesn't have to get to that level to be a great for us.

Mbappe is an absolute beast. Fantastic player would score and make goals wherever in the world he played. He scored a hat trick in a wcf for gods sake. He can turn on irrespective of the occasion and looks like he feels no pressure whatsoever.

The hat trick had 2 penalties!

Totally silent in the game apart from that 2nd goal. Invisible really.

That guy Kolo Muani played in half the game and had a bigger impact!

I don't know why folks are acting as if saying "Julian's finishing is better than Mbappe's" is some outlandish thing to say.

Have your ever seen Julian miss a clear one on one option? I haven't, and I've seen pretty much all of Julian's professional's games so far.

Nobody is saying Julian is a better player than Mbappe. That would indeed be a ridiculous thing to say given what each have accomplished so far. But just in terms of finishing? I don't think I've seen a forward with a better ratio than Julian. Give him a one on one and it's pretty much a guaranteed goal.

The joy is that we get to see just how good he can become. Comparisons are futile, until he plays regularly in the PL and top-level competition. The signs are there, and his performances in Argentina and in the World-Cup suggest that we could have an absolute gem of a player. How wonderful that he is ours. Personally, I think that he is an almost perfect counterbalance to Erling, and, together, they can rule the world....Mwwwwaahhhhaaaahhhhaaaa, mwwwwaahhhaaahhhaaa!

cant wait for this lad to be back....said before the world cup that for me he is as exciting as Haaland and nothing Ive seen since has diminished that...

hopefully we will at some point get to see both him and Haaland starting in the same team on a regular basis
