He benefits massively from the opposition being completely occupied by Haaland - but that’s great for us, just like it was great for Argentina when he mopped up in Messi’s wake.

We need a secondary goalscorer in the XI. Grealish and Mahrez are playing very well but they just aren’t a big enough goal threat to divide the attention of a defence.

There's a real skill in doing that too. Reminds me of how people like Pedro were so brilliant for Barca too in Messi's wake. If you're intelligent, hungry and have an eye for goal, you'll always feast when everyone else is looking at the main man instead. You definitely have to have that intelligence to your game though. Alvarez does.

He himself even said when asked what his best position is as "behind the striker, I get more space there".

Technically HE was the striker in Argentina, but the opposition is so preoccupied by Messi that he will find gaps, and Haaland has the same gravitational pull Messi has.

He also is always looking to make a pass forward to Haaland who I assume will also benefit from this partnership.

Imagine prime Sterling with Haaland

Jack definitely, but Mahrez always contributes a lot in terms of goals and assists..

Iconically it is Grealish who's position in the middle of the box forced cherry's goalkeeper(or the denfender?) to make a quick clearance which flew into Alvarez, occupied 2 defenders and offered the little gap in the box for him to shoot.

Exactly the same scenario as the Alvarez's opener in our home game vs Spurs. Gundo and Grealish made two fights to force Hugo Lloris not able the punch the ball away enough. And it flew into Alvarez's feet.

The problem in our RB Leipzig game? They can play two RBs in two halves. The fresh RB in the 2nd half forced Grealish to drop much deeper and wider to protect Ake instead of roaming inside the box to drag defenders away.

Things happen when he's involved. Continue to believe Foden Haaland alvarez is the best front 3 option we have. the energy, movement, tenacity and actual goal threat from all 3 trumps anything else we have. We don't see it enough, its time we saw it more.

I love him, he's unpredictable and he makes things happen which in honesty is just what we need(ed). He could be sharper of course but he's hardly had a kick of late, he'll only get better I reckon if he gets a bit of a run. Two starts next week please Pep.
