I think putting Alvarez as a winger will be very tricky for him, it's clear that he will be much more useful in more centered positions, if you really want to put him as a winger you will have to be patient if things don't work out as expected in the beginning.

Why this thread turned into Pep bashing thread?
It's not pep bashing. We are lucky to have him but he needs to stop being so afraid of transitions. He messes up some important games because of this fear.
Recently, Argentina showed this in world cup against france. Only way to stop france was to keep the ball and attack better than them.

exactly! this is a great example. if argentina played like pep wold by keeping possession that day, they would have been destroyed by france and lost 3-0. it was because they played fearlessly and took risk with playing dimaria and attacked france that they were able to score 3 goals. you are going to concede some transitions against a team with pace no matter how you set up. so why not take risk with your own attack. sabotaging your own attack is not the way to go.

Argentina has more defensive minded "work horses" in the midfield while we only have Rodri. KDB and Bernado are excellent attacking midfielders but their defensive skills will never be as aggressive as those Argentina midfielders - mobile fast and good tackles. If we put Philips (in good form of course) and Rodri together in the midfield then we can cope with more transitions. But on the cost of which attacking midfielder? Don't see it happen now. I would love to see that young Argentina kid to join soon. He seems to be both aggressive in defending and talent in attacking. Left footed. Maybe a good partner with Rodri.

that is true to a extent, but disagree that KDB and bernardo cannot replicate the workrate of argentina midfield. but having normal fullbacks instead of this inverted nonsense will atleast gives us more attacking output if pep is going to play mahrez and grealish. at the moment pep has simply forgo and stopped all attacking outlet of his own team for his own imaginary fear of transition against the likes of everton.

I am not talking about work rate. It is the speed and physical build. Team needs fast defensive mind midfielder to play transitions. Rodri is not fast and Bernado is very slow. If we want to play transitions regularly we can only have one of KDB/Bernado/Gundo and play two DMs behind them.

He has to play against Chelsea and Southampton for 90 minutes in each game. If not, something is wrong. He’s had hardly any game time since we signed him. Yet he was scoring goals for fun with River Plate, and he had a brilliant World Cup, playing against some of the best players and defenders in the world.

This.

Come-on Pep start the lad !!

He has huge, huge potential, which is crazy to think about, given he’s already won the Premier League and the World Cup (contributing significantly to both campaigns).

I hope he goes on to help us lift the CL and rub it in UEFA’s face.
