Re: De Jong injury to Ben Arfa

It wasn't a really bad challenge, the referee clearly saw it and saw nothing wrong and it resulted in an ACCIDENT. They do happen, sometimes it's just an accident.

Re: De Jong injury to Ben Arfa

Even the ridiculously biased Chris Waddle said it was a fair challenge.

Mind you he struggles to say penalty........pennally, penly.

Was at the match and I thought it was a bit of a dodgy tackle,
we thought that it could be a leg breaker, tho not intentional.
Not seen any replays yet, but I suspect NDJ is in for a hefty ban.

Looked to us that Nige was going for it, ball, player or both. Still not seen any replays yet to change my mind.

Was a fair tackle that the media will thrive on because of the outcome. Studs were down, wasn't two footed (the other leg came in after) and the slippiness of the pitch probably had something to do with it.

I thought it was within the scope of being fair. The Time Lord Atkinson saw it as fair - they didn't even get a free kick for it. But I said afterwards that it would be on a loop on MotD2 and there will be endless comparisons with the KHenry tackle last night. And there will be countless re-runs of a certain incident in the World Cup! Put money on it!

When I finally got home the ScotsGitJim from Sky after giving us the guff on BenArfa's plight then described the tackle from Nige as one that 'went unpunished'! What utter Sky tosh. It went unpunished because, even though Atkinson can't tell the time, he has more than a passing acquaintance with what is a legal challenge.

Re: De Jong injury to Ben Arfa

I don't want the game sanitised but the tackle was dangerous. I have youth team players that fly in like that and get booked every time they do so. They are finally getting the message .. they have to have control when tackling and there is no control in this type of tackle in that the following leg is certain to take the standing leg. My kids don't intend to do harm but I never complain when they get penalised. Just think of another scenario .. this was say Gerrard doing the same tackle and breaking Tevez's leg .. I have no doubt that very few would be saying it is just a hard tackle then. I am not having a go at the player here. I want players to tackle and want to win. Just don't like that type of uncontrolled tackle. Never have and never will and it does not matter who the player is.

OK , as a caveat , l aint no wuss or softarse , l play Rugby to a decent standard and am all for contact sport .

However , the solution is quite simple .
Lets ban unnecessary slide tackles . ln future a player needs to stay on his feet to effect a legitimate tackle or it is deemed illegal. This way flair players flourish and donkeys become extinct ....

Or we could all play badminton or such like
