1968 championship

Another thing is Pardoe, Doyle, Oakes and Nellie were Blue through and through and the entire team was made up of English men.

Way before my time, but apparently we were the last team ever to win the top flight with a team made up entirely of Englishmen. (Bobby Kennedy didn't play enough games to qualify for a medal.)

Kennedy was unfortunate not to get a medal. He only made four starts but was on the bench for a much larger number of matches. Along with Dave Connor he was the most used outfield player outside the usual first eleven following the arrival of Francis Lee. Paul Hince was something of a regular until Lee came into the team but hardly featured after that.

The consistency of team selection that season was remarkable. Most of the first team barely missed a match.

I (along with many others on here) was at Newcastle on that glorious May day in 1968.

One of the most memorable days of my life, remember it like it was yesterday....
