1970 League Cup Final

Yep I was there that game and if it wasn`t for the quick intervention of Dr Rose, then Glyn would have lost his leg.I have stated in an earlier LC Final Game from 1970 when we beat WBA 2-1 that Franny Lee was the MOTM.
However Glyn played in midfield that day and not only did he score the winning goal, but for me it was his finest game ever in midfield.
I hope Gary James is reading this and can verify that my statement is true ??

The 1970 final was viewed as Francis Lee's greatest ever game (up to that point) by the media of the day, but I also know that several former City players have talked about Pardoe as having a brilliant game. Finest ever? Difficult to judge because we all have different opinions. I was too young to understand at the time and footage since doesn't really do players much justice. Nowadays we can see everything a player does in a game virtually but back then they'd spend half their time off camera. Ah well. So long as we win the match this Sunday. It could well be the greatest League Cup final we've ever played in, but then again it's got to do a lot to beat 1970, 76 and even 2014.

No ticket. Slept rough the night before outside the ground, freezing. Taken inside by security early the next morning , given a breakfast and a job on the pitch clearing straw. Had a 15 min break with a ball and scored a goal at Wembley. Later shovelling snow off the steps.Got to see the game and got paid 7 quid.

£7 lot of money in 1970.

Couple of things.

1. Looks like we had goalkeepers dropping bollocks back in the 70s. I wonder if he got called a useless ****, or maybe the fans got behind him?
Made me laugh that. He did regularly get called useless. I was at Mcr Poly in the mid 1970's and he's just made a complete boo-boo in a game. We were waiting to go into a lecture with students from other courses and I was talking to a United-supporting mate complaining bitterly about Corrigan being fucking useless. He was kicking me on the shin and pulling faces so I got the impression something was up and went shtum. When we got in, I asked him what that was about and he told me Big Joe's brother (name might have been Mike) was stood behind me getting more and more annoyed and was about to land one on me. Fortunately Big Joe went on to redeem himself completely and I'd say was definitely the best keeper we've had in my time of watching (and that includes Joe Hart).

i'd go along with that

big joe was shite at first. clanger after clanger. he was though quite young. he came back a demon, one of the best I've seen. Coton ranks as second to me behind joe hart. TC was simply awesome. on the final itself sadly we were too skint in those days to attend, it took us all we had to do domestic games. watched it on the telly and was beside myself when glyn popped in the winner. 68 trophy, 69 trophy, 70 this and cup winners cup. great days. we thought this was how it was always going to be. enjoy what we have now people because although unthinkable we will one day be pegged back. unlikely but just enjoy it anyway.
