1974 league cup final

remember their keeper (making debut I think) having a blinder.

Marsh didn't collect his medal but about 5 years ago he was speaking at a Sportsman's Dinner and after his bit he invited questions from the audience.

I piped up with "thanks for all the good memories Rodney but one thing intrigues me, 1974 League Cup Final 23 players collected their medal and 1 didn't bother - why was that?"

If looks could kill - really threw him for a few seconds but when he'd recovered his composure he said "How do you know that?". He said he was gutted we'd lost and didn't want his medal as he didn't feel he deserved it. He added that the next day he realised that they can be valuable and contacted the Football League, apologised and asked for his medal - they told him where to go!!

Fair play to him - he came over to our table later on and had a good chat about City - nice fella

I was serving abroad in the Navy & could not go .could not believe that there was the slightest chance of us getting beat . Went to the next one though in 76 against NEWCASTLE & twice Against Spurs in 81 .did not bothe rwith the full members cup though

I remember the coach we were travelling in was leaving Macclesfield and it stopped. There was a rag walking down the road and the coach driver opened his window and asked 'do you want to come with us?.

After that, I dont remember anything until we got to Wembley. Fans everywhere, going under a bridge and Wolves fans peppering our coach with bottles and pint glasses, stopping at some traffic lights next to the team coach and Denis Law giving me the thumbs up. Getting to Wembley stadium coach park and it was a swamp with huge black puddles everywhere.

Walking up Wembley Way and seeing the weeds growing out of the cracks in the stones. Remains of red and white scarfs hanging forlornly from prison like vertical bars from glassless windows. Walking up the steps to the entrance, seeing the ticketless fans milling about, and keeping my ticket in my pocket until I got to the turnstile, then having to show my ticket stub again at another turnstile.

Queing up at a bar for half an hour and asking for a pint, then everyone turning to me and taking the piss for asking for a pint. Asking someone for a light, and the guy I asked blowing his embers in my face. Cheers, mate!

Going into the ground, the Police asking people to 'move forward', nobody listening and being stuck in the biggest crush I can remember.

Going home after the game, wandering through ankle deep pools of black puddles trying to find my coach, some guy sitting behind me saying the Wolves fans seem pretty miserable, looking to my right next to a coach of Wolves fans and thinking we are happier than they are, some bloke walking up the coach handing out fags to those that smoked, and a group behind me deciding they were going for 'a chinky' so they could have a pint!

That's what I remember. Nothing about the football. I don't remember anything about the game at all.

yeah thanx for reminding me. i got leathered at the tube station by about 5 wolves fans while me mates were all of 20 yards away but about 100 people inbetween us. not my finest memory of watching city!!
