I have recently watched 'Grown ups' and 'the Expendables'.
Highly publicised films, with big star names. Both had plot lines thinner than anorexic peter crouch. Grown ups is supposed to be a comedy, yet it had no jokes. Chris Rock and Adam Sandler are supposedly the funniest me in Hollywood (Or up there), yet neither could make me break into an aloof expression, never mind a smirk.
The Expendables gave me the biggest laugh out of the 2 films, but that wasn't the intent of the film. It actually seemed like it was a parody of an action film. It was like a shit 'Hot Shots' sequel. Stallone, at one point, chases a plane, hobbling along tentatively, like he is scared of cracking his new hip. Stallone and his buddies, stand in the open in plain sight of the enemy and blast away, killing 1000s of baddies, whilst they all escape unscathed. You wouldn't mind, as this is just an exaggerated version of other 'action' movie's, but at least other films try to add a plot (Hard Target had a better story line).
I mentioned above about 'Stallone and his buddies', and this is what seems like to be the problem. Same with Sandler (Who I used to love). Both films seem to be like a beano. All high profile people getting a holiday paid for by a studio. Nice work if you can get it, but at least put a bit of effort into the film, giving it a beginning middle and end, or maybe even just a middle and an end.
