2 x 45 minute halves to be scrapped ??

I think we should start by enforcing the correct added time after each half. A timekeeper who makes a note of all the wasted minutes which is then sent to the ref just before the 45 is up. During the added time we can then introduce the stop clock to ensure that if there's 10 mins added then 10 mins is played.
Too many shithouse teams want to stifle any kind of game breaking out when they come to the Etihad - it's wank.

Yup. And shortening the game would make it even easier for them to do that. Part of overcoming the parked bus is passing it around making the other team chase it in the hope that it will tire them out and eventually make space. What a result shortening the game would be for the destructive teams. The rags would love it.

Until anyone knows the average amount of time the ball is in play during a game it's futile arguing over the length of time? 30 minutes may be below the standard level meaning less game time or above it. Either way an independent stop clock is a great idea, sick of goalkeepers taking 1 minute+ all game only to be cautioned in the last few minutes of the game, thus rendering it pointless.

I'm not necessarily saying 30 minutes each way is the answer. If they stuck to 90 minutes, scrapped stoppage time and stopped the clock when the ball was out of play I imagine it would speed the game up and encourage more positive play. However that could take too long.

Most of the 30 mins when the ball isn't in play is made up of a few seconds at each and every stoppage. The amount of intentional time wasting is a relatively small amount. If they stopped the clock every time the ball went out of play every match would last over110 mins.

They should introduce the rugby system. A stadium clock which is stopped by the ref by raising his hands for any substitutions, goal celebrations, injuries, etc. They could go further by allowing the ref to penalise repeated time wasting (after giving a warning) by taking say 1 min off the clock.

I'd say that's a reasonable compromise. Would cut out rimewasting which I think is the main problem here
