20 | Bernardo Silva - 2025/26

Let's continue to act as if nothing is happening. Yet for the past 18 months, we've needed a top-notch Foden, Haaland, and Doku every time to hope to win a match with him in the starting XI. The situation is so chaotic that it's no longer anger, but sadness.

Stones and Bernardo on the same flank for over an hour... My God, I can't believe it!

He’s in the side for mentality and because he works hard. He doesn’t lead by example in the quality of his play which is what a captain should be.

Rodri for example. Or Vinnie who had the mentality and the quality. Fernandinho. Gundogan. Merlin. They’re captains. Not Bernardo.
 
There is this narrative that he is useful as a midfielder, but this is only because he is so bloody awful as a RW that he seems serviceable as MF. The truth is he should be the last player in the squad to start. Doesn't add physicality, creativity, good transitions, aerial threat, defensive solidity, tackling...the only thing you can say is he runs...runs to do absolutely nothing both defensively and offensively.
 
Bernardo should be in Reijnders position.

I've seen people slate all 3 of our wingers tonight for not doing enough, i dont think some have any idea what the gameplan was, we wasn't asking the wingers to be the source of chances tonight.

I said at the time that giving him the captaincy made zero sense. That’s Walker and now Bernie, given the armband at a point in their career, when they didn’t deserve their place in the side. Rewarding mediocrity is never the way.

Yep.

I’d have given it Haaland. Or somebody who we know is going to be a main character and leader for the next few years.

Baffles me why captaincy is seemingly a defender or midfielder job - it should be about the individual and how they lead by example and motivate their teammates rather than how long they’ve been here. IMO anyway.
 
Hate to see how firstly Kev and now Bernie look so bad during their final months in our system. Big problem for Pep now is how do you only play your designated skipper in half the games because tonight he was frankly awful and doesn't merit a place. And this is from someone who loves him for what he has done as a player for us - it's just he's now lost that top 5% that makes all the difference - tonight for example he created nothing and was easy to defend against players that we will never hear of at the highest levels.
 
Once upon a time we’d have been waxing lyrical in the future about the 2 Silvas that once played for City, at this rate there will only one be remembered fondly, and don’t see it changing anytime soon

Mental giving him the captaincy. More so that he’s pretty much confirmed he is leaving at the end of the season.

Said the same at half time. Dias right CB, Stones RB and Bernardo RW was such a low, uncreative side of the pitch it was unreal

Love him but nothing doing tonight. He’s a machine and never gets injured so he never ever gets subbed.
 
I love Bernardo for what he's done for us over the years and I find it really sad to say but he's done as a top level footballer.
He used to be a creative force for us and make a difference, but now it's very hard to watch him as most of our moves die as soon as he gets the ball.
If he has to play it needs to be in the middle as we can't have someone that slow out wide

Have we not learned from watching Walker, De Bruyne, and Gundogan creak their way out of the club.

Too much sentiment around and we need to get ruthless with players.

Bernie should be a bit part player. Making him caption was lunacy!! That means he will play more games than his body will let him.

Can't remember his last proper good game for us.

He's a legend, but all legends lose their ability at some point.
 
To those who say he shouldn't play on the wing anymore, but should be in midfield.

For the love of God, would Bernardo play in midfield for PSG? Bayern? Barça? Real Madrid? Arsenal? Liverpool? Or even Newcastle, Chelsea, or Napoli? He has to stop. He no longer has the energy, the physique, the vision, or the shot on goal to play for a big club with ambitions at the highest level. Why do we absolutely have to find him a place in the starting eleven?

With all the love and gratitude I have for him, we have to stop.
 
Play him in the big tight games Liverpool Arsenal etc. but every other game where the onus is on us to go out and win it has to be Bobb every single time

On a side note stop giving the fucking captaincy to players who are leaving within a year or 2 max
