He certainly hasn't been as bad as people make out but we can't afford to keep playing him game after game. Save him for the bigger games imo.

100%. Trouble is, there is no one who can play there. We need to go into the market in Jan unless Rodders proves his fitness
 
Was interesting to see the difference in how we used him.

Normally he is an RCM who drifts wide right to let Cherki in the middle.

Instead today he stayed purely central, and Cherki held the width more, probably better this way.

Bernado has been critical in showing the leadership and skills behind our improvement and melding into a team again. Phil is learning to control tempo and positioning from him.
 
taken the pirlo in his later years role at juventus on board and has been. magnificent for us protecting Gonzo to go do his stuff

Can’t remember him making a forward pass, when he got the chance to he’d turn around and pass it backwards.

But that’s nothing new as part of his new role. So I do wonder why Pep wasn’t happy.
 
Another quietly efficient and important game from our skipper. Doing well to avoid the yellow, few ocasions today where it looked like it might happen. 2 more games to avoid that ban, really can't do without him at the minute and we definitely don't want him picking it up at sunderland and missing the chelsea game.

Think Pep will have been happy with his performance. Suspect it’s a bit of mind games, needs to keep pushing this squad to become the machine we had before ( if that’s possible) so can’t allow complacency. Better to criticise Bernardo level who can take it and knows the score than the younger lads. Easy win with energy conserved. Bernardo excellent.
 
Many moons ago I was critical of him for too much running around and not doing many creative things, but I went 180 degrees in my view of him. We ll know what we are missing only after he had gone.
And I am very happy hes been employed slotting in between our two CBs when playing from the back.
It is not surprise Pep is having him as his favourite player.

Whatever anybody says about him, he is in the team because his mentality is by far the best in the squad.

He won't duck out of any game in any stadium. Pep said as much yesterday.

He isn't the player he once was, but you need players like Bernardo in the side to get you through the tough times when it comes to winning the big trophies.
