20 | Bernardo Silva - 2025/26

Maybe harsh but I’m tired of seeing him start every big game.
I wanted him gone in the summer but he got the captaincy instead. That being said, this season he probably deserves his place. He’s not been amazing by any stretch but look at his competition for the place in the team. For the most part, they’ve all been shite. Bernie has been one of our 2 best CMs this season. It probably says more about the others than it does about Bernie but that’s unfortunately where we currently are.

Players make mistakes. He's made a couple of big ones for us, but he's more than made up for it over the years.

There’s a horrible symmetry with Bernardo and Real Madrid. When we were at our apex, he truly was their kryptonite, simply unplayable, but then came that weary penalty in the shootout when the team was already looking over the hill, and now this ignominious end to his last Champions League appearance for us. Shame.

He’s very good at attacking in and around the box, but don’t know why Pep is so obsessed with playing him deep when other available options like the two Nicos, could do a lot better in that role.

If you’ve played football at any level, you know how difficult it is to control that instinctive reaction. Truly extinguished any hope of a comeback but damage was done long before.

He’s been a terrific player and an absolute workhorse for this club. Hope he can lift at least one bit of silverware as captain - I fear weekend might be the only real hope.

What's lost in his decision is just how easily Madrid played through us, again, for it even to get to that point. Not excusing his decision, but just saying.

That part pissed me off massively - walked through midfield, had loads of time to pass for Vinicius and then all our lads stood gormless when it hit the post.

It's not even like they hit us on the counter; they had sustained possession and just picked us apart. Credit to them, but it's too easy on our end.

Our midfield is so slow at getting back. It’s a major problem. Pep was imploring them to get back at one point but we just don’t have it in us.

It absolutely needs addressing. Physicality and fitness is everything now in this game.

These players are paid millions to instinctive in the correct way

Also, I'm not buying it was just instructed because he already put his arms behind his back, so that proves he already knew he can't use them and that he needs to throw his body behind the ball..but then decided not too.

If it was all done under instinct, he wouldn't even have time to anticipate what was coming and get his hands behind his back

You can never accuse Bernado of being lazy but that was a lazy decision tonight to stick his arm out considering he already put himself in the stance that shows he knows he can't.
