2018 Summer In And Out and Cost

I know many would disagree but I’d be happier with a different number 2 keeper and I hope we go with Gunn.
and many would rightly disagree imo. Gunn has no real experience at our level and should Eddie get an injury, we would be dependent on him. Bravo had a mare of a first season, but he is a far better 2nd keeper for us.

There is no way we are going into next season without an experienced 2nd choice keeper

Can't see that either, if anything happened to Ederson we'd put our season in jeopardy.

We would be anyway. Ederson is up there with Neuer in playing a unique style that allows the team around him to play in a totally different way. When they're out its always going to be a loss. With Bravo we probably have the closest thing we could possibly get in a backup but the build up play is still very different.

You're saying our season wouldn't be in Jeopardy if we had Bravo or Ben Foster in goal?
I definitely wouldn't sign Foster as a number two. Bravo is obviously not ideal but he can at least play out from the back the way Pep wants and has two years experience playing with our current squad whereas the other two don't. The only way I can see Bravo leaving is if we have to free up a space for a foreign player, if not then I can't see the point of changing it to be honest.

Exactly my point.

If we get the signings we expect:

Sane / Leao / Aguero / G.Jesus / Mahrez / Sterling
Silva / Bernardo / Foden / De Bruyne / Gundogan
Jorginho / Fernandinho / Gomes
Mendy / Delph / Laporte / Stones / Otamendi / Kompany / Walker / Danilo
Ederson / Bravo / Grimshaw

A few thoughts:
  1. Mendy - Will genuinely be like a new signing. A whole extra dimension to our attack. Hopefully won't suffer niggling injuries after his ACL, which can happen.
  2. Laporte - Will be his first full season, a big upgrade on Mangala who we had to rely on quite heavily pre-Jan
  3. Gomes - New youngster to potentially get his Foden-esque bedding in
  4. Jorginho - Brings a completely new aspect to our play, an out n out Regista. Could be key to breaking down the Double Deckers we'll face most weeks
  5. Foden - Could be relied upon more this season
  6. Bernardo - Not a new signing but likely a new position
  7. Mahrez - Gives us something different up top & will allow us the option of resting Sane whilst not sacrificing width high up the pitch on the left
  8. Leao - A potential wildcard, at 6ft 2 would be our tallest FW, could get a few mins here and there. "Leao" translates to "Lion" so he must be good.

Only thing is Gomes and Leão, or another 2 foreign players, would have to miss out on the CL squad. However, that's not too big a deal at this stage in their careers, Zinchenko wasn't in our Group stage squad last season.
