Just a thought about the US shit show.
When we announce results in leisure centres, town halls etc on election night, we don't do it bit by bit. There are no running totals. No announcements like 'With 54% of the votes counted, the Cons have 8334, Labour have 7435, Greens have 1234 and the Lib Dems have 43. We'll update you when we get the results from voters in Hulme . And eventually we'll get around to adding up the postal votes.'
Instead we have this crackpot system of counting all votes cast and announcing them at the end.
Seems quite sensible to me. What the fuck are they playing at over there?
A lot less to count here. If we had no running totals in the US we wouldn't have a clue what's going on for days, and that's worse. Usually you don't have so many absentee votes either and certainly wouldn't be counting those so late. That has obviously caused such a shift in the overall position that they can't call results early either.
