As many of us predicated, he’s now doing what so many will be doing over the next few weeks, months, years: claiming they had no idea Trump was like this and stopped supporting him as soon as they “discovered it” or insist they were always working in the “secret” resistance.

Theoretically they could do it in a day.

Someone needs to call a vote on the house of representatives. Then it goes to the senate for the "trial" but that can be as long or as short as they want it.

I don't think it will happen but successful impeachment would ban him from running for office again and if the GOP had sense, I think they'd do it.

If he can run in 2024, he will, because it will provide political cover from prosecution. Then the GOP will be split in 2 with Trump Jr already promising to attempt to unseat every republican who doesn't support his dad.
