2022 World Cup Discussion

This world cup has reinforced my view that international football is boring as hell. Perhaps it's because it's taking place when the real stuff should be on.
I think that’s a very good point. Normally in the summer the World Cup eats up the boring weeks of no football and season break. This World Cup has come along bang in the middle of the season and a lot of fans just want the PL back and see this World Cup as an inconvenience rather than something to enjoy.

And another thing. It's a time for hypocrites. We look at the England team and we are supposed to be gushing with pride and are meant to be supportive of Southgate's selections which might mean leaving Foden and Grealish on the bench in favour of honest runners like Henderson and Sterling. In a league game these players would be jeered by us just as our players would be jeered by supporters elsewhere but in the WC we are meant to put it all aside and believe the team out there is the best there is. I am sorry to say it but I just can't go along with all the sycophants.

Interesting WC chat on the radio the other day (talksport) they were discussing how at the start of the tournament we were getting 10-12 mins added on and games lasting over 100 mins in total. But since pretty much the end of the group games its gone pretty much back to normal. A minute or two at the end of the first half, possibly 4-5 at the end of the second to reflect most substitutions happen then.

I don't know who spoke, but they had a theory: they reckon TV people have had a word and said we can't have 55mins of football without advertising breaks (and the revenue it brings in). I think its a sound theory.

Is it just me or to get into these world cup games do you have to be either: female, 20ish and pretty or male 40ish and ugly! Are the camera people told to find the attractive ladies when they can?

Anything’s possible. I think it’s unlikely though. We had the same advert breaks for the same length of time. The extra time spent showing football was just at the expense of inane chatter in the studio.

Would be interesting to see how long the ball was actually in play in those games with double digit minutes added on, compared to those with the traditional four or five minutes. It’s possible teams have been fannying about less knowing it’s going to get added on if they do.

Take another look....

That’s not a bad City side.
