2022 World Cup Discussion

I am trying with much difficulty to get in to the spirit of the World Cup.

A month of Football coming up. I should be excited.

Yet i am not....It is not helping the event is happening in the Western Hemisphere Autumn, with cold dark early nights and shit loads of rain.

You read the Western MSM Papers etc. And they are slaughtering Qatar at every opportunity.

Sure there are valid concerns over abuses going on in Qatar.

You can not help feeling though. Is it really all about the deaths of construction workers, human rights abuses etc. Or is this just being used as the excuse to demonize a whole country and ruin the Football carnival before it even begins. A bit like the shit our brown skinned owners get on a regular basis. Yet white American owners get a free pass for operating the same way.

I wish we would keep politics and Sport separate.

Demonizing the Majority for the actions of a political minority.

Football should be used to unite and build bridges.

Not be politicised to condemn and divide.
I can't agree.

Everything about this world Cup is wrong. The two leading figures Platini and Blatter found to be corrupt with the latter recently admitting this should not have gone ahead. It is too small a venue for a WC.

This was supposed to be in summer in air conditioned stadiums, instead moved to winter. With no build up and many "Legacy" (**** of a word) fans pissed off their seasons have been interrupted in this fashion. As a fan experience I can't imagine this will be great. Hosting a WC a month before Xmas means most people won't be able to attend.

Just to be clear, I thought Russia was a disgrace of WC an I am amazed how little criticism there has been of that decision. FIFA look ridiculous right now, they would hold the World Cup in the Astropark in Didsbury if the back hander was big enough. This is another slow step, nation's league etc to international football becoming obsolete.

Who’s even arsed? Sure somebody else will have said this but it feels like an international version of the Fifa Club World. Championship, pointless ballache in some corrupt medieval shithole. Not for me.
Longest international break in history, and we all fucking hate them, bad enough at 2 weeks but 6!

Everyone is righteous until the right money is on the table

Did Gary Lineker ever house a refugee in the end like he said? Course not.

Gary Neville’s reasoning is “it’s better to be out there and spread awareness than sat at home” - ok Gaz, fair enough, so go out there and spread the important message, but refuse to accept a penny for doing so, that’s the right thing to do if your morals are in the place you always portray. I’d respect it if he did that. Will he? Absolutely not.

The truth is, I don’t care if people go out there and get paid. We all own stuff made in terrible conditions and what not. They should just be honest about it, they’re going for the dough and they don’t really care as much about the other stuff they preach about.

I prefer Beckham’s recent shameless approach rather than Neville talking out the side of his mouth about human rights while lining his pockets.
What do you expect?

Name 1 Nation, Player or somebody working in the game for a Team that qualified who has refused to go!

There isn't 1.

Why would media types who make their living from footy refuse to go.

I find these annoying self righteous publicity seeking shits (Hislop for example on HIGNFY) more annoying.

Just to give a bit of context to the price of beer discussion, the last time I went to a Toronto Maple Leafs game (probably 5 years ago) I’m pretty certain that draught beer was around $12 a pint. In the Hot Stove Lounge an admittedly fantastic Burger and Fries would set you back the best part of $30. A night out for two people including average match tickets would cost $300 to $400

I have to confess…I’ve done it. After events in my life this year, I can’t or rather I’ve been strongly advised to avoid.

Hence, will be skipping any England games early on.
I’m actually having a dry period too. Might as well use the fun sponge that is the World Cup to look after my body a bit, although it’s looking likely that I’ll be in town for the Wales match as it should be a cracking atmosphere.
