2024/25 Annual report - £694.1m revenue, £9.9m loss

I thought (but am probably wrong) that the TV revenue was spread 'evenly' between the teams? From all divisions. :-)
You must be living in a time bubble Eccles ;)

The PL has their own, frankly ridiculous deal:-

"The Premier League distributes its UK broadcasting monies to its member clubs in the following way: 50% is split equally, 25% is based on the number of television appearances with a stipulated minimum amount (called facility fees) and 25% based on where that club finishes in the league (called merit payment)"

The EFL has a much smaller deal where The Championship gets the lions share with Div 1 & 2 getting a relative (but no doubt, much needed) pittance.

Thank you. I guess I am living in a time bubble.
My problem is I just love football and don't understand the finer nuances of the outside influences!! If I sat down and studied it I guess I would but I'm too tied up with other things. Football is my relaxation I guess you could say. Something to help me relieve the stress and strains of the modern world. Thank you @Centurions. :-)

Don't bother with the outside nuances Eccles. Stick to what you enjoy.
The rest is just white noise. x

the more your on more you get plus loss of gate reciepts if below average gate
unless its changed thats why they signed up for it each team will be on a number of times a season what they failed to mention that game would be against original breakaway 6 or rags

I didn't know about the loss of gate receipts if below their average gate bit?

It's been a long time since each higher league gave a monkeys for the ones below them. That's purely down to the original breakaway and the greedy "big" clubs wanting to hold on to their entire gate receipts. It'll never happen but I'd love to see an entire reset of the football pyramid.

Is that a £9.9m loss compared to last season’s £70+m profit, so still a £60m profit… or a £9.9m loss on the £694.1m revenue?

Their anti competitive rules are slowly achieving that goal

Right, I've had a look and put the numbers into my spreadsheet I use to track them.

Revenue we know is down just over £20m compared to the previous 2 years and that's due to the £34m we dropped from 2024 due to our poor performance and early exit from the CL. That's offset by a £18m increase in other media revenue, which could be down to revenue recognised from the CWC games played prior to June 30th. This current year we've got a new PL deal kicking in, plus the rest of the WC revenue, so assuming we get back to our normal performance in the CL, revenue in the current FY should be very healthy indeed. I'd say £750m isn't out of the question, and that doesn't take into account the new deals with Etihad and First Abu Dhabi Bank. And the extra 6,000 seats, plus the hotel, will start to come on stream. So potentially £800m, which will smash the previous record.

On the down side, wages were largely static £408.4m vs £412.6 in 2024, which is disappointing given our lack of trophies and therefore bonuses. Other Operating Expenses are up by £7.5m, meaning our overall cash expenses were slightly up on 2024.

That means EBITDA (Earnings before Interest, Tax, Depreciation and Amortisation was £91.4m, which is over £25m down on 2024. Player amortisation is slightly up on the previous year but our summer spending was relatively modest. Profit on player trading was the biggest issue, even though we reported £95.2m. Last FY it was £139m so while decent, it's nearly a £45m drop.

Interest payable has jumped significantly, from £5.9m in 2024 to £19.6m in 2025. I'd guess that's because of some borrowing to fund the NS extension. However interest receivable has increased from £1.1m to £7.8m so I'd guess that's due to us sitting on money we've been advanced to fund the expansion.

A figure I like to track is our Operating Loss before player trading and that's been increasing steadily the last 5 years, from £9.8m in 2021, to £60.5m last FY and £93.4m this year. Not many clubs make an operating profit so that's not a problem in itself, but I'd be happy to see this figure getting back to the £20m it was in 2022.

Overall we've turned a net profit of £73.8m in 2024 into a £9.9m loss in 2025. That's mostly due to (a) our CL performance and (b) our lower player trading profit.

There's nothing noteworthy in the rest of the accounts and we should have generated reasonable cashflow, so nothing concerning all in all.
Thank you for a very helpful analysis.

Any reason on why its only our third highest revenue in a year?

Do we not usually grow it year on year?
Not getting to the latter stages of UCL cost maybe £50m. Don’t know whether the accounts show that detail but prize and tv money if you win it is worth £100m plus £20m knock on effect.
Wages will be lower in the next accounts as several top player’s wages will not be there any more. Of course the £1m a week Haaland is paid (see the caf) is problematical.

Someone explain the report to me like I'm five years old please
1. The players are paid a fortune even in the academy.
2. Pep takes his wages home in a wheelbarrow.
3. In order for the club to survive, ticket prices are astronomical and as many seats as possible are sold to rich tourists. Season card holders are exiled at the drop of a hat.
4. Equity investment is logged as petty cash.
5. The North stand expansion is built of gold bars.

Premier teams pocket approx. 90% of the tv deals.
Then:
Bottom team gets about £100m,each position above gets about £2m more,so Prem Champions get abut £125m
