2026 Winter Olympics

Because for people like me who likes a variety of sports, I’ve really enjoyed the whole spectacle of people in some instances pushing themselves to the limit and others just showing lots of skill. All in all a great couple of weeks.

Every time I watch it I get that Ski Sunday tune rattling about inside my head.

Americans hate her - the American press despises her - they think they are the best in the world because they believe what they are told - like China. They would despise the comparison but the woman has honoured her grandma

In the female world, only the tennis player Coco Gauff was paid more in off field sponsorship last year than Eileen Gu. Gauff $25m to Gu’s $23m. I’ll admit that prior to the Winter Olympics, I hadn’t heard of Eileen Gu. After seeing her win umpteen times, I certainly know who she is now.

I just went onto the BBC website and they are covering the return of the athletes from the Winter Olympics, with school children screaming for them and the reaction as the athletes came out through customs and onto the concourse was emotional. It was brilliant. :-)

This closing ceremony is very good. Classy and not OTT.
Hate to think what the LA summer Olympics ceremony will be like.

As a kid I loved watching them both. Got as many sports in as I could. Now I'm an old working **** I can't say I've seen one event this time around sadly.

I note the 2030 games are being held down the road in a combined French Alps setting. Is that the template Manchester and other Northern Cities are looking at to provide a summer Olympics here?

Me three. :-) ;-)

Ditto.

I've really enjoyed it and the fact it was time-zone friendly helped. I actively enjoy learning stuff about sports I'm not very familiar with and then expressing completely over confident opinions on them (there's no way Zoe Atkins's amplitude didn't deserve at least Silver).

I think the Italians have done a really good job, well run without it being over the top or excessive. Overall it struck me that it seems to carry a lot less baggage than the Summer Olympics, though there's been the occasional dodgy character like the Canadian fingerbobs and the French biathlete. in general the athletes, especially in the freestyle events, seem pretty close to the original spirit of the Olympics to me. Eileen Gu does give off slight Pixar evil genius vibes; but you can't argue with her capabilities.

Overall a lot of fun provided by not only dedicated athletes but also in many cases complete loons who are missing that bit of the brain that makes you risk aware :-)

For me when watching the Winter Games I'm not always thinking who's juiced up whereas with the Summer Games..
