21 years ago - City stop Chelsea going a season unbeaten

Strange that the greatest team in the history of football, United’s Treble winning team of 1998-99 doesn’t make that list…
The 1998-99 rags (79 points) were the last team to win the PL with fewer than 80 points. The way the league is now that may stay the case in perpetuity - only Leicester (81) have seriously threatened to do it since then.

Going unbeaten tries to imply yer've won every game, but it's the paupers' version of thirty eight wins.
Indeed. That gold trophy the Premiership (as it was called then) and Barclaycard (who sponsored the league then) awarded to Arsenal shouldn’t have been given to them for just losing 0 games. That should be reserved for any team who ever mamages to win all 38 games (as unlikely as that will ever be).

Almost kind of wish we hadn't just to shut up those deluded fuckwit arsenal fans that genuinely believe going unbeaten is a better achievement than being centurions.
Arsenal repaid by defending our Centurions record in 2020. They beat Liverpool 2 games until the end of season even though they were a massive underdogs at that moment.

You were mistaken. We didn't concede in the two games.

The first game Sun was doing really well but injured his ACL, however Keegan extended his contract whilst injured. He was playing left midfield but playing like a 2nd left back that game with SWP similar on the other side. It was the season Keegan decided to shut up shop with Mills and Thatcher.

Lampard had about 5 chances and James made 6/7 good saves.

The away 0-0 we only had that Fowler half chance all game, and a few more good saves from James.

Fulham broadway was shut after the game, passed Harrods walking back to central London.
You've got a great memory.

Seen KK 3 times in the area (once at the Alti tip, once picking a takeaway up at the Cinamon while I was having a sit down) and once in the chippy (not Sun Jihai’s dad’s), every time he’s said hello and on one occasion had a nice chat about City, a thoroughly likeable bloke, shame he’s not given media duties

I distinctly remember the James Lawton article on this game, think he was writing for the Times at the time.

Not been able to find it online, if anyone wants to test my memory!

The last paragraph was the part I remember best. It talked of the piss taking of Mourinho by City fans, and went on to observe that the Chelsea manager would never appreciate what we, as a group of supporters, had been through. The article was unquestionably upbeat about our victory.

The same James Lawton who repeatedly stuck the boot in after the takeover.

Don’t miss being patted on the head and told him plucky I am, tbh.
You’re still plucky gdm
