24 | Joško Gvardiol - 2024/25

Mad how some players get a free ride on here. He was fucking abysmal today, a great footballer but had a total nightmare.
Not a fullback. I thought it was just going to be a temporary thing while he got used to the Premier league. Reminds me a lot of when we signed Distin. A really good footballer without a position.

Had a bad game, sadly again, but is still probably our best player this season. As others pointed out, he has no cover on that side, so if he does make a mistake, it's really dangerous, he is overplayed, and currently dragged down by others.

Midfield ahead of him was Championship level, so hard to blame him. He is still our best player this season and the least of our problems.

The first two Spurs goals were down to his poor defending . The first goal he should of put the ball into touch, because he got there first and the second goal he played a blind pass across our box to a Tottenham player.

Bad day at the office for Gvardiol who has been our best player this season.

For the first goal, mostly down to Gvardiol - but Gundo (one of my favorite all-time players) is perhaps even more to blame. Gundo points to Maddison, as a sign for those behind him to pick up, and then leaves him. Meanwhile Stones, the only player capable of picking up Maddison, and who is in Gundo's view, isn't even looking towards Gundo.

50-50 blame between Gundo and Gvardiol for the first.

For the second, 65% on Gvardiol - blind pass into mid. Gvardiol glimpsed Gundo moving forward (but Gundo stopped) and then played a blind pass to where he thought Gundo would be.

From there, excellent play from Spurs lead to the second goal.

I do fault Lewis though - once the pass is intercepted he can see that no one is covering the attacker now in possession of the ball. And he's got plenty of City players in defense behind/aside him. Lewis should clearly attack the ball in this situation. Instead he back pedals as if he has no help and ends up in no-man's-land.

Bottom line - Gvardiol made mistakes, but we should have been able to recover.

Gundo passing off Maddison while pointing to him might as well have been signalling, "Hey, pass to Maddison - he's going to be wide open b/c Stones has no chance at all of covering."

For the second, stupid move to ever make a blind pass into mid on defense in the final third. Yet Lewis could have at least applied pressure to the attacker once possession was lost.

Seems to get of a free pass as he pops up with a goal or two but recently he’s been really poor defensively.

If he hadn’t farted about trying to get possession of the ball instead of booting it into touch, then Spurs would not have scored that first goal.

That is the current problem with the team, they do not do the basics correctly.
