24 | Joško Gvardiol - 2025/26

This is his third season and really is about time he cuts those loose passes out he makes in nearly every match.

Joško pushed up only around when stones went off.

I’m not sure what position O’Reilly was in but it wasn’t left back either. Terrible tactics
I've always said it, if you play Gvardiol at LB he needs to attack, we've seen his offensive contribution so many times before, if he stays back he gives us nothing, and it's pretty much the same thing with Nunes on the right, the breakthrough against Everton last week was when O'Reilly made an overlapping run and crossed it to Haaland and yet we almost never see that from our FB's.

He doesn't look that different in his position to when he's a CB
Doesn't really go out and engage with the opposing wide man, just tucks inside.

This time last year he was brilliant at left back and was banging goals in - yesterday, he looked like he’d never played that position before!

I thought the goals masked over the fact that he isn't a FB. He's a proper good footballer but I'm not really sure what his true position is. The sooner we find out the better.

I thought he was weak on their disallowed goal at the start of the game, got blown by far too easily

Was his best game of the season for me. He needs to show this level now for the rest of the season. Also I can't remember a brain fart pass in this game so that's a massive improvement.
As for the disallowed goal, watching back he was in two minds, he started to engage and thought better of it and then turned to track the run, but due to the change in mind, the attacker was at full speed and so "breezed past" him. I think he should of dropped and not tried to engage but hindsight is always 20/20. That will come with more experience (he is still very young)

Sometimes an attacker just times something perfectly and defenders have no chance. Happened to every good defender ever, from Kompany to Van Dijk to Vidic to Cannavarro.

Brooks looked at Gvardiol’s body position and saw he was on the turn so not in a position to sprint off the mark, and he was already running in one direction so could sprint and knocked the ball into space and sprinted onto it.

Gvardiol thought about engaging but didn’t because he’d have brought Brooks down for a foul and then couldn’t recover because he wasn’t already running in one direction to be able to sprint.

Gvardiol can’t face his own goal there even though it would put him in a position to sprint because Brooks would just come inside him while he was facing away from him.

It was just great play from Brooks.

Making up for Nunes cutting out the brain farts by doubling his own contribution every game. Could just be he's mentally fatigued as he's played a lot already this season.
