Agree completely. Sometimes with a goalkeeper, especially one that is such a classic throwback style player like Gigi, you can affect the game without having to touch the ball. His presence is worth a lot and Ruben Dias seems to gel with him really well.

He has had a relatively easy time since he joined: he has not faced many shots on target but he has saved everything he possibly could and has dealt with corners very well. He’s also shown plenty of confidence with the ball at his feet.

He’s may make some rickets over time but he is quite simply one of the most talented goalkeepers in the game and has a real aura about him.

I think it was the emotional connection some had to Trafford - another good goalkeeper.

But get past that and the black and white benefits of signing him were so obvious. Just some took longer than others to recognise it.

It’s a shame for Trafford but if you’re handed the best GK in the world - at 26 - on a plate to you for more than half his value, you can’t let is pass by. Glad Viana was ruthless personally.
