25 | Gianluigi Donnarumma - 2025/26

His punch from that Everton corner in the first half that came from our left side was unbelievable.

The Everton lads were pushing Donnarumma, and shoving him and moving him around, then the ball came over and about 15 players (City lads included) all piled into him in the six yard box, and then a big pink arm shot through the bodies and made contact with the ball. Never seen anything like it in all my years, lmao.

Have to say, I wasn't 100% keen on this transfer. Not because I doubted his quality, but more because of the way people were trashing Ederson and Trafford like neither of them are fit to lace Donnarumma's boots. But what a keeper he is. Incredibly happy to have him between the sticks and loved his celebration for Haaland's second goal.

He’s been an absolute revelation, and it seems crazy to think that some people were so opposed to signing him. Can’t think of many other transfers that have had such an immediate impact on the team. Feels like he gave the entire squad a lift.
That might have been more a case of loyalty to Eddie, I think. You don't get to play for PSG (particularly last season!), and also get to captain your national side if you haven't got the ability to do the job. Eddie was fantastic at what his speciality was; distribution. None better. But I think most blues would agree that Gigi is a better shot stopper. I guess it's down to what you want your 'keeper to be good at. He certainly seems to breed confidence in the players in front of him. A fantastic signing. The biggest compliment I can pay him is that we're not missing Eddie.

He is doing great. Bearing in mind we won most of our post takeover trophies with Ederson in nets, was Ederson underrated/notliked?
Seems to be a consensus he wasn't top notch?
I'm all in on the donarumma bandwagon btw

Massive fan of Eddie. And no one can do what he can as good, and was vital to our success.

But can’t help think there’s been another shift in the game. Seeing a lot more long throws, and teams relying on set piece goals, teams you wouldn’t expect, getting the ball in the box early.

Gotta assume Pep and the hierarchy saw this coming and acted. Superb move if so.

The Don had been magnificent so far. Bargain of the season.

Before he joined there were tonnes of people on here saying he was bad at dealing with crosses and corners. Clearly our opponents heard those rumours as well because at every opportunity they have about 2-3 players trying to foul him at set pieces.

He's frankly made them all look ridiculous, he has dealt with everything. Eventually if he keeps this up teams will start to get the message that there's really no point in trying and they need to do something different. He's faced dozens of corners like that where they've put it on top of him at this point, and they've all been entirely wasted. His arms are on telescopes. It's like having Inspector Gadget in net.

And it's no surprise the defence has gained a bit of confidence, I used to watch teams break through our lines and think "Oh well this will be a goal," but now when that happens I'm still thinking "Alright they're in on goal but they still have to somehow get it past Slenderman."

Having a goalkeeper that completely controls corners is so nice, man. He doesn't allow any bullshit, you're not pushing him out of the way, he's pushing you out of the way!

Ederson was brilliant, of course, and it is ridiculous to simply weigh up his mistakes against his assists, because that ignores all the undocumented times that we scored after his passing ability enabled us to retain possession. Certainly dozens, maybe hundreds?

Nevertheless, he'd definitely grown more passive over the past 18 months, and it's a huge boost to have a keeper totally dominating the area again. I mean, there's no doubt about who's the boss in there now, is there?

Donnarumma's signing has been the single most significant change this year, and you can almost see it throughout the team. What a signing, for relative peanuts by today's standards.

I'd thought that PSG letting him go had surprised everybody, but you have to wonder whether Pep's old mate tipped him off, when you consider the perfect timing? Even down to being able to bring Trafford in as decent backup just beforehand?

I absolutely idolised Eddie but it was becoming quite obvious over the last 18 months that his levels were dropping and his mind seemed elsewhere.
This guy is the perfect replacement and will go on to become a city legend like so many others in our recent history.
Love him.
