25 | Gianluigi Donnarumma - 2025/26

We've given up a lot of possession and thus play under pressure more often by replacing Eddie with this guy.
Before under pressure, pass to Eddie and he'd more often than not ping a ball over the presses heads and get us up the pitch.
Now its a hoof and hope which often result in ball coming straight back.

Said few days ago it was the final nail in the Pep ball coffin and having 43% possession vs fucking Fulham just adds weight to that.

It wouldnt be nearly as bad if we had a plan. Every hoof seems like its a panicked clearance and is therefore often nowhere near haaland and there is nobody anywhere near him anyway on the few times it goes close enough to him for him to challenge.

If we are going to be smashing it up, it has to at least be in haalands general direction, or out into space for a speed merchant to chase and we have to get 1 or 2 players around haaland for lay offs or dare I suggest a flick on.

Everything just feels like we are desperately, inadequately prepared to play this way. What the fuck do we work on in training to still not have a basic plan for this kind of play after 4 months?

Couldn’t catch a cold this bloke. His flapping on set pieces is a far bigger problem than his ball playing which I would’ve never expected
To be fair literally every scouting report and French & Italian pundits all said he is a great shot stopper but struggled with crosses. Many posters voiced these concerns before he joined.

Ederson was the better distributor and was better at dealing with crosses. Donna is the better shot stopper and brings more leadership qualities. Both are world class keepers.

Just play Trafford, he is not Ederson, but much better than Donnarumma on the ball.

He’s not the one getting skinned by wingers. He’s not the one being brushed off the ball or giving the ball away through sloppiness

I don’t have a problem with his performance.

What I have a problem with is our wet team who get overrun by Fulham. I’m not having that we were under pressure for 30 odd minutes non stop because of Donnarumma’s kicking

It’s not though. His arrival directly coincided with Harts decline, and Ederson arrived as an excellent shot stopper with one of the best penalty records in the world. The rest I can sort of put down to keepers used to playing every week getting worse after they were reduced to back ups.

He supposedly lets the keepers dictate their own training and it ends up with their weaknesses getting worse and worse.

You certainly can’t point to a goalkeeper who had markedly improved after coming to City while Mancisidor has been here.

I didn't rewatch it at the time because I was fucked off but I thought he flapped at the corner for the fourth other than that what the fuck else is he meant to have done to stop the rest? Even at the fourth, same as their second and third, the defenders just stopped pushing out to the ball, Bernie and Phil in particular were shocking for the third

You're facing that drop with losing Ederson regardless of who you bring in.

Who could we have realistically signed to replace that level of control? Ederson was an absolute unicorn as a goalkeeper. Might as well compensate with shot stopping.

Donnarumma can still become better on the ball, he's only 26, but you're never replicating Ederson.

People forget that Ederson was pretty fucking shite for the last 18 months.
