25 | Gianluigi Donnarumma - 2025/26

Big, important save after Dias' dreadful fuck up.

Awful finish from their player in truth but still had to get his body in the way and did so to preserve the clean sheet and prevent another nervy end.

An important save at the start of the second half; given our vulnerability in recent matches when conceding a goal, it prevented us from falling into doubt.

Would be very interested to see how many passes he's received in games this season because it felt like today vs Sunderland was the lowest of all. I think it benefited us greatly that Gvardiol and Dias were looking ahead and to the sides rather than behind when working out how to start our attacks from deep.

Straight from the kick off in first half we played it back to him and he stuck it out for a throw in on the half way line, second half he makes a world class save that is potentially match winning. And that pretty much sums him up, i guess it depends what you want from your goalkeeper. I am happy with him for now despite not wanting to sign him initially.

His job is to stop the ball going into the net. He is the best in the world at that. Think of erling at the other end whose job is to put the ball into a net, hes the best in the world at that. Lets focus on these facts rather than looking for negatives?

I think the defence is more confident and solid because he’s there at the back. That’s priceless.
I'm sure they're more confident that he'll save chances, but on the other hand he's so unpredictable coming off his line and with the ball at his feet, and that creates uncertainty in different moments

He really didn't have that much to do because Madrid mostly couldn't hit a barn door, should've saved the Rodrygo shot though, still weak on crosses and almost cost us a second goal, not his greatest showing but he'll move on.

A lucky boy, should have cost us a goal with that really poor flap, got away with it big time with Vinicius missing when he should have scored. No idea how he flapped so badly at it, wasn't even impeded.

Also need him to be coming and covering his box more if we are playing high lines. That early chance where rodrygo played it across from the right to vincius on the left, I'm wanting my keeper to be claiming that, ederson or ortega comes and claims that all day last season.

We dont need him to be Ederson with the ball playing pinpoint 60 yarders but being able to put it into a 5-10 yard space from 40 yards shouldn't be beyond him, got to be able to at least challenge to keep the ball when he's launching it.

Whilst Vini did ‘miss’ having Donna there must have put him off

It’s clearly a strategy to have him come for everything - so out players need to 1)get out the way and 2) get back on the line.

It maybe a flawed strategy but that seems to be the approach

When he flapped at that cross, the commentator on French tv referred to it as a ,Donnarumma Special‘ …
Pros outweigh the cons, but he really could do with improving on that.
