yeh but thats because they didnt actually have enough over 21 players to fill the 25 slots. If you have 25 or more over 21s then you have to fill all 25 slots, if not then you can leave a few empty like Liverpool did

By that logic if we don't have 25 over 21s we'd have to name Bridge or Bellamy in the squad if they're still here but we won't! The 25 is a maximum not a compulsory number.

That's exactly what I'm saying, we WILL have to name Bridge or Bellamy in our 25 if they don't leave. The same situation happened last season when we had to name Logan in our 25 even though he had no chance of playing.

correct, if you have players eligible for the 25 man squad and spaces on the 25 man squad, they must be named on it.

Champions league 25 man squad is going to be slightly more difficult, as we only have 1 "club trained" player in Richards certain to be named, (maybe Onuoha, SWP? Hart does not qualify as he came when he was 19, therefore 2 years before he was 21 instead of the required 3) which brings our squad down to 22. What is more, the rules for under 21's is different to the premier league rules as they have to have been at the club for two years or more, so Balotelli and Savic will need to be named in the 25.

PL rules: 8 spots for HG players and 17 spots for HG or non-HG players. Unlimited U21's. Players eligible for 25 man squad must be named if there are spaces available.

CL rules: 4 spots for CT players, 4 spots for CT or AT players and 17 spots for CT, AT or non-CT, non-AT players. Unlimited U21's that have been at the club for at least 2 years.

(We need only name 3 GK's as rules are in place to allow us to draft in replacements in both competitions should they get injured)

As we only have 3 club trained players we are limited to a squad of 24 in the CL therefore we would need to drop two (non-CT) players, Bellamy and Bridge are the obvious choices. But should we add another player to our squad, say Hargreaves, then an established player will need to be dropped.

The rules for U21 this year are "born on or after 1st Jan 1990" ie. as long as they don't turn 22 before the following new year they are under 21.

My understanding is for CL squad Balotelli and Savic although meet the requirement re under 21 don not meet the requirement that they have been at our club for 2 years therefore have to be included in the A list. Means if SWP stays and Hargreaves signs we have reached our limit of 24 players maximum, because the other space available can only be awarded to a club trained player such as Ned who Mancini has already stated won't play for the team. If SWP leaves we will only have a squad of 23 A list players. For Prem it is different and Balotelli and Savic need not be included because the extra requirement of having to be at our club for two years is not part of the regulations. It also seems to me that Bert will have identical squads for each and bearing in mind the CL squad is the more difficult to fulfil that will be the squad for both, but with the only exception being Taylor will be able to play in prem but not in CL. Just my opinion.
