This is part of the reason we need more defenders.

As good as Stones, Ake and Akanji have been (barring the errors some of them have), they are all just about 30 and so incredibly injury prone.

Sure, don't sell them, but plan around those 3 as if they are like 1 truly fit player in the squad, and buy more top ready made defenders in the summer. I think we need 2 more to slowly integrate and eventually take over for those 3 down the line.

Akanji played the whole time it has nothing to do with him being 30. I also believe that gvardiol isn’t far away from an injury honestly and it worries me. These injuries can always happen. It’s not like he got injured out of nowhere it was after a challenge so the age doesn’t really matter here. He played while not being fully fit too. If we go into next season with the same CB‘s I wouldn’t be mad since there are 2 younger players who will get game time too due to injuries. I seriously don’t think that any of the CB will leave. They have 1 or 2 years left after this year. All the squad need is a RB. 6 CB should be enough for any team. Pep sadly couldn’t rotate so Akanji played every game.

Akanji isn't injury prone. He's played much more games and minutes than the other defenders since his arrival. It's Stones and Ake who have injury problems every season, in particular the last and this season. Sadly, Dias has joined them this season too.

Not a loss as a centre half because he has been very poor for the best part of two seasons……however I thought he was having his best match of the season as a right back on Tuesday.

The formation of four centre half’s as per our treble winning season is definitely the way forwards.

Hopefully we have another 6 centre backs (including the new signings ) to replicate that line up.

He will be a loss at CB when Stones and Ake get injured again. Watch this space.

Your right, that label is wrong for me to use.

He didn't have much for us in his early time.

I will say within the last year at the least, we are starting to see some injuries happen and I worry at his age that this will get worse.

I think he was out for a month last season, which isn't too bad, but this year will be worse.

Ake and Stones are taking up the squad place of 2 players while only contributing as 1.
They are constantly struggling with injuries.
Retaining one of them is really keeping one player who is available for 50 % of the time.
Akanji has been taking up the slack due to these injuries and is now paying the price for playing too many games.

Over played and under protected. Pretty much par for the course on the defenders this season. Two additional lads should help going forward but the damage is done with them all needed a long break

Sounds like its not too bad, and no need to rush him into the lineup.

Has clearly been playing through a niggling injury this season to help the team and now he's done serious damage. Those who've posted all that bullshit about him not giving a shit about City owe him an apology of sorts.

A lad who's played more than 100 games for City, wining 2x top division titles, the FA Cup, the Charity Shield (winning penalty), and played a big part in the goal that won us the European Cup, deserves better treatment from us.

Criticise his performances by all means but don't start saying this group of players doesn't care. They gave absolutely everything for this club two years ago and then stretched themselves to their limit to make four-peat history.

Again, I ask you why you think Stones and Kushanov will be better than Stones and Akanji - based on what you've seen yesterday ?
I think today helped my point of view on this as kush is far more agressive and stones is a good play maker… they seem to be a good balance today
