Strong rumours about VAT being increased to 25% in the next budget

Think its a kick in the balls for a lot of people and i fail to see how that will stimulate growth...i think people will cut back even more now!

Not heard anything about this, but surely lowering VAT would stimulate the economy far more than increasing it?

Strong rumours from where fella?

quick article about it

<a class="postlink" href="http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/9701989/IFS-George-Osborne-may-have-to-raise-VAT-to-25-to-balance-the-budget.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/ ... udget.html</a>

heard a few things on the radio yesterday too..

pretty much the same source

<a class="postlink" href="http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2238403/IFS-report-Osborne-warned-slow-economic-growth-mean-SIX-years-cuts-VAT-rising-25.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article ... ng-25.html</a>

I think is has been mentioned in the media it but it wont happen. Just probably a PR exercise so when it doesnt go up, people wont look too closely at what has increased but be happy Vat hasnt risen also.

A vat increase to 25% be crazy at this time. People are not spending as it is, the Vat increase would be passed on to the average guy and spending in the high street would suffer badly

I actually like the principle of VAT as a tax, when I want to buy a luxury I pay extra tax because I'm a bit of a flush ****...seems fair. Unfortunately in practice it's just a back door tax and a piss take and will remain so until we get it off essentials...and I include petrol in that.

I've resigned myself to the fact that eventually the government gets their grubby little paws on every single penny I will ever earn.
