Last night summed up the Mahrez problem we have imo. First 60 minutes we played with so much fluidity and pace and we got in behind their defence at will. Mahrez comes on and he does a couple of brilliant things and scores a superb individual goal. He has attributes that not many others in the aquad have. He personally has had a brilliant season but imo we're a more dangerous, direct and dynamic team without him. I suppose it's a nice issue to have but it is an issue.

How many times do we play teams where we can be direct & dynamic?

38 league games a season plus cup games? Fluidity, pace, movement, getting in behind can always be an option.

Every single time if we want to be.

Besides, I haven't said that Mahrez isn't the right choice in certain games. I just believe we're often a better all round team when he's not starting.

what's the difference between our game against Newcastle in the FA cup & Liverpool yesterday?

Spot on. There was plenty of space last night and that is a rarity and why we were able to pick them off. No other Premier league team would play that way against us. To be honest I don’t even think Liverpool would have if it was a game in normal circumstances. Mahrez would have loved that space as would Aguero. In normal games against parked buses Mahrez’s ability to beat a man in a tight space or score from distance is a vital asset to us. Yes he can over do it at times but it’s difficult to have it both ways. He’s having an excellent season.
