26 | Savinho - 2024/25

Different player on the left hand side. Doesn’t need to check inside which kills his flow and a slows him down. So much better and from being ineffective and frustrating he looks a real asset to the team and a key to Haaland becoming more Haaland-like again.

Fuck me.

Even Kalvin Phillips had a couple of good games for us.
He didn’t. The potential was always plain to see in Savinho and it took Sane longer to get going when he arrived at a similar age to Savinho. This kind of form was always coming with this kid because the talent was always there. Mentioning Phillips in same thread is just bizarre. He always looked like a very one paced plodder in a City shirt and now plays for fucking Ipswich at about 28!

Fair play, he was great yesterday. What a pleasure it was seeing him and Haaland attacking at pace for our third yesterday. What a difference it makes. His assist for the second was pretty special as well. keep it up lad.

That cross was my favourite moment of the season.
You'll not see a better cross than that anywhere in the world this year.

Taking absolutely nothing away from the lads performance .....

There was, imo, nothing special about the cross..it was a bog standard
high ball to the big man in the middle on the penalty spot. Easy for a winger to deliver when attacking on his favoured side, and easy for Haaland to anticipate and use his supreme ariel dexterity....basic stuff.

It's what traditional wingers used to do all day long back in the day,and I posted on here couple of days ago about Ricky Holdens crossing ability from the left ,feeding both Roger Palmer at Oldham and later,Niall Quinn at City by slinging in high crosses to feed the traditional no.9.

Long may this pretty basic element of attacking play continue ,for it makes no sense having a deadly ariel weapon like Haaland.....and not feeding him ....begs the question why Pep has not encouraged this basic trait beforehand.its not rocket science.

The goal actually slightly annoyed me because we could and should have had a lot more goals from this tactic,if our wingers had been instructed to do so,playing on their favoured side..

I'd love to see our wide players become more gung - ho with early high balls, because if Haaland doesn't reach the ball 1st,there's gonna be a shed load of penalty appeals as defenders panic and wrestle him to the ground.it will also test the bravery and ability of opposition keepers, who will have been advised don't worry about high balls into the box, that's not the way City play ...Boom!

And hopefully that cross shows other players sometimes it's worth just getting it into the box ASAP. Not arsing around until defences get chance to set themselves.

I don't know if getting the ball out of to a winger and crossing it quickly is seen as archaic these days, a throwback to the 4-4-2 days, but it's still very effective.

Yeah definitely, I think there's still merits to crossing (even as someone who very much prefers keeping it on the ground) but there's ways to do it.

People who just want to "get it in the mixer" are just living in 1985 and need to move on.

Similarly, this thing we've been doing where we slowly drift it out wide, wait for them to stack the box and then float a hopeful ball to a triple marked Haaland is just a waste of everyone's time.

However, if you can see a noticeable gap in the defense, you have a 6ft5 striker who has exceptional positioning in the box, it's not a case of sending it in to Haaland, but rather put it in a place that he can get to. Give yourself a high percentage chance of scoring.

Yesterday was a peak example of that, for a split second I thought he'd crossed it to nobody before I saw Haaland running for it.

This guy is going to be special. He just needs patience from us fans. Can see him being the face of the club in this next generation. Very marketable
