That cross was my favourite moment of the season.
You'll not see a better cross than that anywhere in the world this year.
Taking absolutely nothing away from the lads performance .....
There was, imo, nothing special about the cross..it was a bog standard
high ball to the big man in the middle on the penalty spot. Easy for a winger to deliver when attacking on his favoured side, and easy for Haaland to anticipate and use his supreme ariel dexterity....basic stuff.
It's what traditional wingers used to do all day long back in the day,and I posted on here couple of days ago about Ricky Holdens crossing ability from the left ,feeding both Roger Palmer at Oldham and later,Niall Quinn at City by slinging in high crosses to feed the traditional no.9.
Long may this pretty basic element of attacking play continue ,for it makes no sense having a deadly ariel weapon like Haaland.....and not feeding him ....begs the question why Pep has not encouraged this basic trait beforehand.its not rocket science.
The goal actually slightly annoyed me because we could and should have had a lot more goals from this tactic,if our wingers had been instructed to do so,playing on their favoured side..
I'd love to see our wide players become more gung - ho with early high balls, because if Haaland doesn't reach the ball 1st,there's gonna be a shed load of penalty appeals as defenders panic and wrestle him to the ground.it will also test the bravery and ability of opposition keepers, who will have been advised don't worry about high balls into the box, that's not the way City play ...Boom!
