26 | Savinho - 2025/26

Doku always had ability to go past people with so much ease that is rarely seen at any level. Savinho isn’t playing well but how people can continuously say he doesn’t have brilliant natural talent of his own is completely baffling to me. He’s got an absolutely brilliant first touch and a decent turn of pace. He can glide past defenders. Yes he needs to improve but he definitely has the talent to become a top winger.

What might hold him back is that unlike Doku he seems a bit up his own arse. People saying Pep will just play him regardless is just ludicrous. If Pep isn’t having someone he’ll happily just bin them and he’s done it with bigger and better players than Savinho. Mentioning Eric Garcia is also baffling. Pep gets it wrong sometimes as he did with Garcia. With him it was because he loves a footballing centre half. Not because he just liked the lad so wanted to give him minutes. Make no mistake Pep is ruthless when he needs to be.
He may have a brilliant first touch, but it dramatically falls down after that.
His first touch wasnt great when he ballooned it over the bar on saturday, exactly the same as he did against liverpool

Well let’s give him time to see he ain’t good enough hey? The players who come in proved they have been good enough get a lot less leeway!
No problem giving him time, just saying not all players come good regardless of the excuse or reason being offered during the period when they're not showing anything. This guy at this moment is offering zero, let's hope he turns it around.

Yeah 100% Savino might never be good for us! We bought a project player so we have to see it through or what’s the point?! Personally I’d rather go for proven players but that can also be a gamble

Pep also played Eric Garcia. Pep has to give him minutes, he’s just signed a new contract. I suppose the one thing he has over Phillips is he doesn’t show up over weight.

He still starts for Barca every now and then Garcia! Pep threw him under the bus I thought some of the games he started him in at his age.

We sold Rogers and Palmer. We were linked with Eze and Olise. I'm glad we got Sav instead and gave him a new deal...I literally can't wait until he's proving the doubters wrong every week. I really can't wait, it'll be soon won't it?

I thought he had real potential first season. Had skill and guile and found a good pass a few times. Finishing was dire but he can improve. I thought he'd kick on second season like most do.

However, this season he's fallen off a cliff. He's worse at everything. Got no confidence and not heart. I dont want him anywhere near the first team.

I think there's a player in there but we brought him here a couple of years too early. He's nowhere near ready for the premier league and to be honest, he may never be. We should loan him and see how he progresses.

Its a big step up for any young player.
I'm not really following any of our ex players that I thought might make it ( and are still young) but I hear no mention of McAtee, Callum Doyle, Tommy Doyle who left us not so long ago.
We have a load of young players who are on the U 19 and U 17 international team and I am hoping they make it with us but even the likes of Bobb and Rico are struggling for game time.

He scores that chance Saturday it'd be a bit different on this thread, but I'm not shying away from what I said last season about him, just not good enough, never has been, although a few beg to differ

Giving him a new contract was absolutely nuts.
Part of the reason he gets so much hate is the cognitive dissonance of the club behaving as if he is prime Neymar, turning down massive bids and giving him one of the longest contracts at the club, when his on pitch performances are about on par with Nolito.

(I think nolito actually scored more in less time)

We've missed out on Eze and Olise for this guy.

He wasn't a project player, the project had been completed, from CFG buying him for troyes to get round work permits and loaning him out to blood him at Girona for a few seasons before the deal that brought him here aparently ready for 1st team starts.

He hasn't kicked on and found the prem isn't the easy ride you get in Spain, put him in the Anthony category, if he went to. the dutch league or back. to. spain he would be a star and banging goals in, here or the german league, not gonna happen for him.

I do wonder how much of this, and the desire for a CFG success story to prove the whole thing has footballing merit for Manchester City (and isn't just one big commercial ploy), influenced the decision to bring him here in the first place? And which other & better players they may have turned down to do so?

It shouldn't be, even if he scored.

A player can't be shit for ages, score and suddenly there's the "where are all the haters?!" bollocks.

Just like if Haaland drops an absolute stinker and someone says "See, he is league two standard". That would be insane.

You have been on here long enough to know how it works

We've missed out on Eze and Olise for this guy.
Since Savinho arrived we have spent millions, brought in at least 10 new players so how have we missed out on Eze and Olise for "this guy"

If Pep wanted Olise and Eze, I'm guessing we would have shown some sort of an interest in them.

He is not the reason we lost on Saturday - not even close - and this thread is a fucking disgrace to be honest. Throwing toys out of the pram because we're only third in the league and picking on a 21 year old substitute who is still growing as a player. Way past criticising his football, loads of 'fans' attacking his character, calling him everything under the sun. I'd like to think most of you are old enough to know better. Seen it all before and it's always fucking gross.
