26 | Savinho - 2025/26

For statty world sakes.. Sergio Gomez and Kalvin Philipps won a treble too!

Assists/ key passes is something you don't want to make fun of.. it's one of the most vital stats in football and it's something we've been severely lacking after KDB got injured.. someone who could get the ball to our strikers.

And without any hate towards Grealish, I'll tell you why Grealish is not here.. Doku OUTPLAYED HIM in big games the last 2 seasons.

Love him or hate him, Doku has had SEASON DEFINING MOMENTS in our last 2 seasons.

1. Drawing the penalty at Spurs away in 23-24 that Haaland scored.

2. Trivela pass to Nunes for the goal in added time vs Villa at home in 24-25.
Stats also hide, distort and make no account for context. I'll watch with my eyes, you with your "smarts".
We're miles apart. Vive la difference!

Btw, Cherki is even more lazy helping out at the back.
Watch him, it's painful.
As soon as Cherki doesn't deliver up front, his defensive outright denial will be in the spot light.
Difference is defenders will drop back and sit in their half against attackers who they fear could turn and produce a goal, all the gimps that say haaland does work off the ball fail to realise this, he constantly takes a defender of 2 away from others out of fear itself.

they see a weak winger who loses the ball easily or bottle a one on one and they will push up and bully on the overlap, which we have seen happen with Bobb and savinho this season.

His play doesn't strike fear into the opposition so him tracking back means fuck all unless he actually takes a ball off them or stops an attack.

Cherki made 6 defensive contributions and 5 interceptions in Sat and crucially 2 assists for me that starts him over Sav

Yup, 100% confidence topic.

Sav has a contract til 2031 and Pep certainly won't come out and say "he's turd" like our top pundits on here...

Pep wants to "help" players, and that's his job. As soon as Pep doesn't see any positive development he'll change his stance. Not yet.

Silliness...

As with Fulham, nothing wrong with his cameo again but some will always find something to slag him off about and when there is nothing, it'll be that.

He was on as fresh legs to rest others with the game won under instructions to help the side not fuck this up. No different to marmoush or ake or Lewis or reijnders.
He got the ball twice and lost the ball twice. How is that helping to not fuck it up?

You saw nothing wrong with his performance at Fulham? the team needed someone to hold onto the ball , relieve pressure and push Fulham back , every time he got it without fail he ran into a Fulham player lost the ball and put us straight back under pressure.

Apart from the time he didn’t and he crossed well to Haaland who missed. Do you think that goal might have changed things?

I assume you mean every time aside from the time he beat his man, put in a superb cross for a free header to score and settle the game there and then and eliminate any and all pressure.

This point seems so specious. It was a very good cross (I can only think of a handful of other good crosses he's done in his entire City career). It doesn't mitigate the fact that he was weak and allowed Fulham to keep pressuring our right side relentlessly.

Also, the other point is that football is mostly a numbers game. His cross wasn't nodded in even though it should have been - in order to mitigate that he needs to do his job which is beat his man and do well as an attacker and get good balls in time and time again. He does one good cross every six months.

Attacking winger puts in one good cross. Brilliant.

Well at least thats his job done for the day.

The rest of the minutes he was on the pitch was a fucking disaster. Did fuck all to stem Fulham attacking us and getting back in the game.

Interpretations "hide""distort" and "make no account for "context". Stats just measure for better or worse.

As a pretty staunch Savinho defender I'd happily admit Cherki is a better creator and a more exceptional player.

Ironically though he can't actually play as a winger and they're basically incomparable.

Bobb and Savinho are only real right wing options unless it's Bernardo doing a job out there so Cherki can go into the middle, which he's exceptional at.

Cherki, Foden, Doku is such a force as a central attacking 3 it'll be interesting to see if we can find a bernardo replacement thats capable of taking up the right wing slot in game while playing DM as often as he does.

Yes, if we want Cherki and Foden in the team, and we probably do, then it isn’t a winger we need, it’s a Bernardo and an overlapping fullback like Nunes. Who the Bernardo replacement is though not sure there is one.
