26 | Savinho - 2025/26

I am glad another bluemoon poster can see it.
He has great potential, sometimes it is his final ball choice that is wrong, often we do not get enough people in the box to get on the end of his crosses.
For many football fans once they have labelled a player as shit, they x their fingers and hope they are right.
Sometimes as they were with Gundoghan, Rodri and David Silva, they just keep quiet

Silva? Are you mad, he was class from the very start haha

No , he was criticised alot on this platform, many said get rid, not good enough.

Have you no memory!

Haha

I must have missed it, because I remember him and Aguero linking beautifully against Swansea.

He was a class act from day one, absolutely different to any player we'd seen.

Nah not buying that.

At his best he’s a great dribbler in small spaces, fast enough to beat people over short distances and has the technical skill and passing to make it work.

Honestly I feel like 90% of the forum is judging him at his absolute worst in December and pretending that’s what he is. Go watch some highlights from his first season and tell me that he can’t attack a parked bus.

That’s a player I want us to have, it’s all still in there. He had a rough season. It happens.

New manager, new start.

If he goes to Spurs he’s exactly the kind of player di Zerbi will get going.

Also despite the shit season we know he’s got a good attitude because Pep told us a hundred times he won’t have sad faces at the training ground and sulking players - and he kept playing him. If he was a prick he’d be out the door like Cancelo.

Hes 22 years old, raw, needs his confidence building up and a few bloody goals to drop in but when it comes together he’s going to be a hell of a player and frankly it’s kind of the managements job to get that talent out of him and on to the pitch.

How many times did he run the ball out when playing against a packed defence. His best displays for us have been when he has space to run into & only 1 defender to beat.

Was that 6/7 games in?

Savinho has had 2 seasons and spent most of this one on the bench because when he has started, he hasn’t been good enough.

1 goal, 1 assist. - shite
People have some 'self-persuasion' on here or self delusion, convincing themselves that Savinho could be a world beater (not in the 55 Brazil long list). Same with Gonzalez.

He must have been shite then, because I don't remember him. Wish I'd got on his back and called him crap now :(
He was on the periphery in his first season. Didn’t start as much I remember and was eased into it.
As the season went on, he got better and better and then started 11/12 as a world beater.

I seem to remember him being on the periphery until we played Blackpool in October then he announced himself and hit his stride after that. I never remember people doubting him though!

some people have the need to see that every City player is good or will become good ,that is not the case sadly.

Haaland, KDB, Gundogan, Mahrez, Sterling, Rodri, Gvardiol, Stones. Some may have had slower starts than others but it was clear these guys were the level we needed when we signed them. If we get back to this sort of transfer policy we'll kick off another period of dominance. If we fuck around with players like Savinho hoping they come good we won't.
Im sorry but putting "some have had slower starts" is a bit of an understatement

Sterling & Stones were coming off poorer seasons for Liverpool/Everton the season before we bought them and they got a LOT of heat being overated Englishmen. Stones in particular really really struggled in his first couple seasons, and he had a fair few errors at Everton the season before he came to us

Gundogan joined in 2016 yet didnt really become a key & consistent part of the first team until his 4th season

Mahrez is a bit different, former POTY but was called FFS for his first 2 seasons before we really saw the value he brought

Rodri was called Plodri in his first season, he wasnt a big star when we signed him either

Said on the Anderson thread but there aren't any "sure things" in football these days

Haaland, Gvardiol & KDB I agree with though, and in general I agree that we should try to go for more sure bets but that comes at a cost.

Cherki & Khusanov cost us less than £70m and they are 2 players that hopefully make up our spine for the next generatiom

He's just turned 22. Brazil have a few good players. He's already played for his country 13 times.

The fact he's behind a guy here whose career didn't really take off till he was 25 should be enough evidence that's not the greatest measure of a player's potential.

We bought him for a reason. Extended him for a reason. Seems like Txiki and Hugo were more in the optimists camp.

I googled Brazil national football team and they seem to be quite good at the sport.
