He’s starting to look proper.

Remember.. some players take time to adjust to the league... Bernie took a season to shine even Merlin took half a season.

this lad hasn’t played loads but in recent performances I’m starting to see evidence of the qualities of which people associated him with and why we paid the big bucks. Looks a menace going forward and at least as good as our other fullbacks defensively.

It's pretty wild that we haven't given this guy a serious run of games at any point this season. He's only started 3 games in a row one time.

Been a lot of behind the scenes stuff going on with this fella but it seems from Peps statement that it’s getting better

Fair. It wasn't necessarily a criticism because I assume Pep knows what he's doing, more just surprising given how talented he is.

Aside from his issues bedding in and getting the system that Pep has mentioned, it’s not really. We play with a high defensive line and the only protection we have against the ball in behind is walkers pace, that alone, regardless of how well cancelo plays or how poorly walker may play makes him indispensable until we either drop our line deeper or find somebody equally quick (preferably at CB) to lessen the reliance on Walker.

Of course just as I say he wasn't the answer, he puts in a performance like that. I don't know when I'll learn to not judge new players their first year!

Is there any potential using him further forward?
He's an attacking fullback. The intention of brining him in was to help attack on the right rather than a simple overlap like what Walker does. The idea is using the 3 right sided players in the RW, RB and right sided #8 to switch into each others position when moving the ball around. So when he played as RB in previous games sometimes you'd see him taking up the right wing while Bernardo who was the RW be inside where the #8 should be and Kev staying back to protect against a counter attack. The 3 need to dove tail into each other positions.
Seeing that it was his first season he needed to adapt. Also since our defence as a whole was so poor Walker needed to play more.
