27 | Matheus Nunes - 2025/26

Still some on this forum who think we need a right back! For me, over the last year, he has probably been the best player on average. So happy he is playing well, getting comfortable in the position and actually looks happy

Been our most consistent player this season, hasn't had a bad game to date yet theres still people routinely omitting him from their preferred lineups at first chance and including "buts" after every bit of praise offered.

I got pelted from all angles for saying in the summer we didnt need a right back and nobody out there fit the criteria better than Nunes. I'm buzzing for the lad, he works his bollocks off and hasnt once moaned about suddenly finding himself in a completely alien and somewhat undesirable position.

Watched him closing second half as hes right infront of me, semenyo kept on making those dangerous out to in runs but Nunes was switched on for every single one, including the times they didnt play that ball and he dealt with it every single time they did play it, a prime Kyle Walker couldnt have handled it better.

He was also the go to guy for getting us out of their first press, donnarumma would go to Dias who would go to Nunes who would shield it before using his athleticism to spin from his marker, breaking and getting us beyond the first press.

Let's just hope the next time there is a fuck up from him, some posters do recall the consistent performances he's banging out before deciding to shit on him

It's between him and Timber. Imo, Nunes is quicker and better at passing the ball (including Livramento). Timber has more licence to go forward and contribute in attack. But Nunes can do it as well.

Whilst he has been great this season I can’t shake the feeling he’s going to do something stupid and exactly the wrong time

Rags handball being the best example but there’s plenty of others

Still you’re only as good as your last game I guess

I hope he irons out those brain farts and stops playing in skates because he could be really good for us at RB.

The player with:

The biggest improvement under Pep
The biggest redemption arc at City

And some people are still stuck in the past

Meanwhile Nunes is the best RB in the league.

He was simply outstanding today and I'm really pleased for the lad. His performances deserve credit and by all accounts the club were looking to move him on in the Summer.... not sure that will be the case now.

But this is fine. Every team needs a player who keeps his head down and chips in whenever he gets opportunities, which Nunes has been doing consistently since about January now. The last time I remember him having a bad game was at Brentford last season, the 2-2 draw.

I'm not gonna say I was desperate for Nunes to stay in the summer, but I at least went back and forth over him and Akanji - and I thought Nunes deserved to start the FA Cup final. He's a decent back-up RB and if Khusanov is going to struggle for fitness then he'll be valuable as the season goes on.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
