27 | Matheus Nunes - 2025/26

Excellent but it's nothing he hasn't been doing for large parts of last season. Been saying for ages, he's everything we are looking for in a fullback.
Not really a shiny new toy thing. If we can get a proper right back in we should do. Need 2 and Nunes can be the other one especially when we need the attacking outlet he provides
We have lewis, akanji, khusanov, stones all capable of playing right back as well as Nunes. they'll all be looking for minutes and that's how we give them some.

I love this man...delighted for him he has really settled and has somehow found this great role for himself

I still want a RB but this guy has been pretty amazing and is getting stronger and stronger

I know people like shiny new toys but we don’t need a rb. Nunes against the teams we will dominate (which is most) and akanji, khusanov when need more defensive shape with ait Nouri pushing on.

Nunes has earnt his place
Nunes all tge time. If he needs a rest, play Rico. People keep underestimating how good our RBs are

I like him and believe he has done well, but we need a RB a few times he is not quite technical enough or accurate with his passes.

Effort, likeable and very talented.

Do think he would be better a step down playing in his preferred position.

Think we need to sign a RB and he’d be good enough as back up, but hard to see when Rico is home grown and been at the club so long.

Someone needs to speak with Ederson then.

And I think his passing accuracy is better than Tino.

You see it when he passes that it’s just not right, slightly behind, slightly over hit consistently.

May well register as successful pass but slows us down.

As regards Ederson, bad passes happen and he has one in him, but time and time again he has shown he has the best passing of any GK in the world and when he does make a mistake he forgets it and move on.

So not really sure what you want someone to say to him.

Nunes as I say I like him but if we sell none of our rivals are going to buy him at RB and if we don’t when he plays he will be targeted. The one position we need to strengthen for me.

I see what you mean, but i don't think its that big of a problem. Mendy was worse. And Kyle Walker's passing was never btop notch so we cam live with it.

I can already see it now... Those who have concluded long ago that he is simply not good enough are not convinced by any of his good performances last season. Nor will today convince them....

They'll simply wait ( however long it takes) 3, 4, 5 or 6 games, whatever it takes. Eventually he'd have an error or get skinned for a goal.... And his detractors will be back out in full force to let everyone know "he is never a right back. Not good enough."

And then he'd go on to have another 4-5 great games on the bounce before another bad or average game... And the same cycle will repeat.

I have seen it once too many times.. I call it the Zinchy repeat. Even though it didn't start with Zinchencko

Fabian Delph, Otamendi, Zinchencko, Gundogan before Mr. Whippley all suffered from that type of selective analysis.

Cant wait for the Nunes version of it :)

The thing is though, going back in time over the past 5/10 years, you don’t actually need two fullbacks that are good at defending to win the big stuff. Nunes is really starting to show his worth in the final third and has a LOT of attributes that can hurt the opposition, he’s also a great carrier of the ball, and is improving on the defensive side of his game. For me in his current state he’s good enough to play in a title winning team and seems to be consistently improving. I think he’s going to be a very big player for us over the next 12/24 months, seems to have found his niche.

Excellent performance. I've said several times that I would be happy to enter the season with him and Rico, and I stand by it. Keep it up Matheus!
I like Nunes a lot because he plays wide as a RB but Lewis plays more narrow (like Zinchenko used to). I'd prefer to have another RB option that is similar to O'Reilly on the left, i.e someone tall, built, fast, can defend and can attack.

So ideally for me we'd replace Lewis with someone else at RB. Lewis is a good young player though so a loan or a buyback sale would be best.

We do need a right back because in the premier league he will get exposed by the pace if our game like he did last season . I would not get rid of nunes as with every game he is getting better for us but once the season kicks in the expectation will go through the roof and nunes and Rico Lewis will not cut it .
