27 | Matheus Nunes - 2025/26

I’m not going to criticize him too strongly for a mistake when he’s been relatively good this season so far. But that goal was bordering on comical. First, the errant pass started the sequence, then he managed to play Calvin-Lewis onside, then when he positions himself to shield the ball, he dribbles it in the path of the same Calvin-Lewis that then knocks it in. Really?!
When under pressure, we really need to stop trying to pass out into the middle. Its just a stupid decision too often to be worth the few times it works out. The original pass was a mistake.

The 2nd error that caused the goal I actually can understand. He could try to blast it and it bounce of Gvardiol into our net.

He fluctuates between being alright to good and being catastrophically bad. If you think that's good enough for City you haven't been watching much this last 15 years.
Wrong. He fluctuates from fantastic to good. Every now and then he has an error that leads to a goal.

How do i know this? Easy i can count how many goal causing error he has this season. Fewer than Walker did at his peak.

Great assist then had a brainfart. Neutral balance for the game I guess, and as long as Rico Lewis is his competition he is safe.
You are underestimating Rico. He is good competition for a fantastic Right back for a fantastic Nunes. Don't let the error today fool you.

Nunez is a net positive for our team. Outside of our superstars, he and the Nicos are the most important role players by a large margin.

Don't get it twisted.

Has a lot of credit in the bank so I'll let him off his stinker today. Hope he bounces back from it and continues his great form this year
He will. Joust like Foden bounced back from the calamity midweek. I have complete faith in Nunes. He is a top 5 Right back in world football in my opinion.

Almost all of his brain-farts are panic moments. He loses his head and makes rash, stupid decisions. Today, he fucked up and then he tries too hard to instantly rectify his error and it costs us a goal. It’s like he is shit-scared of making a mistake. He is allowed to make errors, no player is perfect. He needs to understand this and stay calm in the difficult moments.

I like him but he needs to remove these crazy moments from his game, otherwise he is always going to have his detractors.

Some people in the match thread were calling him the league's best right back before half-time. Then one mistake and apparently he's shit and we need to sell him along with half of our squad.

Knee-jerk doesn't even begin to describe some in here.

Nunes has probably been one of our most important players in this calendar year, and his uptick in form helped us climb back to third last year.

Everybody is entitled to a bad game from time to time. And we still won - so if that's as bad as it gets, then I'm fine with it.

The way Kyle Walker gets disrespected just to defend Nunes is honestly hilarious. Walker has been the best right-back this club has had. He was winning multiple domestic titles and playing a huge role in our Champions League run, especially in that semi-final against Real Madrid. He shut down several world-class players, something Nunes has never really done. Comparing him to Nunes, whose only “title contribution” was being a failed midfielder, is pretty disingenuous. When he wins titles as a RB and shuts down players like Mbappe / Vinicious, we can start comparing the two of them having brain-farts. This is the equivalent of me comparing Messi having missed penalties to some decent football player like Ivan Toney.

He's done better than expected and to be fair was due a moment of madness. Hope he responds in the best way and for me he is still our best option at right back. Unless we go for Livramento in January who is a proper fullback we should stick with Nunes - least of our issues as the midfield balance is still not right and that should be the priority for Pep.

Said similar in the match thread. His mistakes often come in pairs, one immediately compounding the other, but how we can work on that outside of game time is beyond me.

That ten minutes in the 2nd half was so bad it was comical. But he's alright. And he's our best attacking option down the right in the team.

Every players makes mistake that pass by Nunes was poor but the player he passed it to stood there come to the ball because they should bloody know someone will be up his arse to win that ball! Yep Nunes should have put his foot through it! Gvardiol makes more individual mistakes than nunes!

Given Nunes lots of deserved praise this season but you just can't fucking do that mate. Just fucking boot it up the pitch next time. I'm not going to crucify a guy who's been great all season for one mistake though. It's a wider issue than just him. Panic spreads fast through our whole side it seems. Mentality issue that needs sorting.
