27 | Matheus Nunes - 2025/26

For as much as the improvement has to be admired, he’s still not, or ever will be good enough to be the starting right back for a team chasing titles.

Get Khusanov back in the 11 for me.
If 12 months of consistently being one of the best performing fullbacks in the country doesnt make him good enough to be our starting right back, what would? And who is? What has khusanov done to show he should be in instead?

The way Kyle Walker gets disrespected just to defend Nunes is honestly hilarious. Walker has been the best right-back this club has had. He was winning multiple domestic titles and playing a huge role in our Champions League run, especially in that semi-final against Real Madrid. He shut down several world-class players, something Nunes has never really done. Comparing him to Nunes, whose only “title contribution” was being a failed midfielder, is pretty disingenuous. When he wins titles as a RB and shuts down players like Mbappe / Vinicious, we can start comparing the two of them having brain-farts. This is the equivalent of me comparing Messi having missed penalties to some decent football player like Ivan Toney.
Its like saying one cant compare the crossing abilities of 2 full backs because one is soooooo much more accomplished and the other one you don't like.

For the record, i can compare Messi's free kicks to Beckham or Juhnino's and might even conclude Beckham and Juhnino were better free kick takers, even if they are no where close to Messi in talent or accomplishments.

Whether you think Nunes is nowhere close to Walker in talent or accomplishment isn't relevant to the claim at issue.

You're defeating your own argument for 3 reasons..

1. It's 2025-26 not 2022-23
2. We don't have Walker anymore
3. There is no Walker like for life on the market.

Just like Barca found out.. there is no replacement for Messi or something in City fan's terminology.. there is no Colin Bell replacement.

We're going to have many false dawns.. many good players will be called shit in comparison to the past.. but in the here and now and with what we have I'd like to think Nunes is a much better converted RB than Rico Lewis.

I very much doubt he’s been consistent for 12 months.

He’s had a very good start to the season.

As I said the improvement has been brilliant, but he’s still well below par for what we need to be a top side.

He isn’t a patch on Timber.

Khusanov was one of the primary reason why we lost to Leverkusen. We are sluggish as fuck when he plays right back. Yes, he is good against his individual opponent, but every other aspect of pur game suffers...

Why isn't this apparent to many?

Nunes has had a great season but was responsible for the first goal conceded yesterday. He played an ambitious pass into the middle which gave away possession and then intercepted giving the ball straight to the attacker to score. Other than that, he had a decent game, so it was a shame. It happens.

Bottom line he been mainly great do us and not being a right back he will make mistake like he has!

Noticed Newcastle now have the there two fullbacks back and look a lot better all over the pitch! When was the last time we had a proper left back and right back!? Would of been Walker and someone else!
