3-5-2 Yay or nay?

Hart

Kompany/Demi
Otamendi/Sagna
Mangala/Clichy

Zaba
Fernandinho/Fernando
Yaya/Delph
Silva/KDB
Kolarov

Bony/Sterling
Aguero

I think this could work. It looked good when Bobby tried it against Chelsea in the Community Shield and I remember that Clichy looked particularly good in the back three. I think that the players we have now could be more adapatable than those we had then - Richards and Lescott were nice guys who did well for us but maybe not the sharpest tools in the box.

I am not saying that this should be our preferred formation but it would be useful to have it available when needed. IIRC Brenda played Raheem as a wing back for the dippers on a few occasions - not sure how well it went.

Very well from my point of view. Sterling is now here and that toothy gobshite is out of a job.

For this or any similar system to work you need energy in abundance especially from the wing backs. Our current squad, whilst blessed with talent, would find this difficult to achieve. However when Pep arrives this may all change.

Fitting toure silva and kdb in that system without losing pace and fullback protection is difficult

Not for me

You have dropped sterling and navas our two only quick and direct players, this is exactly the team that gives the problems I mentioned

Rather have the technical quality over pace the way teams sit deep against us we need that creativity to open teams up and it's not like the team is completely paceless!

This Season and last has showed that our build up play is often laboured, teams either sit back and counter or press with energy and we get found out, the team you have picked is just continuing with that theme, carrying on regardless doesn't seem a sensible option

Just no, we havent got the right players to play this system.

We are more suited to a 4-2-3-1, 4-3-3 or 4-4-2.

Dont go messing around with 3 at the back

I know Pelle wont try it anyway so no need to worry

We do have the right players but you are right pelle won't try it

But playing players with pace and no creative spark against teams that sit on the edge of there own box leaving no space in behind is just criminal. Yes play players with loads of pace against teams that are gonna have a go and push there back line high! But as you saw with sterling yesterday everytime he
Had the ball he had no space to run into.

That's more or less how we play now with interchange between the second 3. Although you do have Mangala and Otamendi in position which makes a refreshing change.

No need to make drastic changes i guess. It has a lot of simmilarity's, what i wanted to do was get KDB and Silva in the center with KDB on the left and Kolarov as a Fullback, Sterling on the right going inside with Sagna keeping wider.

Creating space for your team mates is as important as creating it for yourself which is why navas is more important than supporters realise, they just look at his crossing ability, pace is an important piece of the jigsaw both attacking and defending, having loads of technical players passing amongst themselves centrally isn't a good thing not to mention the huge gaps it leaves behind them
