Dias was really poor yesterday and apart from Dortmund away he’s looked knackered for over a month. Started back against Wolves, he was letting opponents get the step on him (Cody goal) and get chances on our goal, because he’s not sharp.

I was saying before the international break that the lad looks fatigued and he’s pretty much played every minute for club and country since.

He’s played 3,882 minutes out of a possible 4,410 this season.

Agreed, I though Ake would have played yesterday with Laporte, Dias needs some R&R.

I don't think he has been as good as when he first started.

Probably to be expected with the honeymoon period being over.

Obviously still fantastic, but him and Stones (more Stones) have lately had small errors creep into their game.

Stones is getting slated but Dias has made more errors than stones since the international break.

Two things to mention though, firstly changing sides and partner every week is disruptive no matter who you are. There's a reason why every title winning side cites a stable consistent defence as a key component of that success.

secondly, he cant be perfect every single week. Our style makes defensive errors inevitable its only because he and stones have been so unbelievably flawless that they're highlighted more. Hoping he can get back to top form for the run in.

Unfortunately Stones’ few mistakes have led to goals because of the false #1 in net; post-Mancini, Kompany was brutally bad at times - especially in Europe - but Hart could bail him out. As you also point out, Stones and Dias were solid until Pep started messing about by bringing in Laporte - it seemed to dent Stones’ already fragile confidence - and also disrupt Ruben’s continuity having to switch to the right having established himself and impressed on the left. That’s the downside of having £60m subs - the obligation to play them every now and then to keep them sweet.

If anything, it should have been Dias who was rotated, because he’s mentally stronger than Stones. Instead, we’ve got a depleted Dias and an unsteadier Stones going into the decisive weeks of the season.
