Yes, our defenders generally make a high percentage of their pass completions because teams generally back up and pack the bus against us. So how good a passer our central defenders are isn't wholely discernible from their pass completion %. Seeing as 90% of the passes they make are simple and sideways.

It's no surprise most of our defenders have pass completion rates in the low 90s.

That said, when watching our Central defenders ( Barring Ake who I haven't seen enough of in our system) I believe Dias has the weakest range of passes and the weakest at breaking the lines with his passes. John, Eric and Garcia are superior technically, and probably Ake too.

Even today when Fulham somehow convinced themselves to press us. It was Dias who got the most intense chasing. I strongly suspect their fishes had reached the same conclusions I did.
It may be that opponents recognise the passing qualities of our defenders and don't want to leave gaps by challenging them, at least in the case of the lesser teams. I thought Dias was slightly uncomfortable at left centre back compared to his normal performances, only slightly and no one else seemed to think that so it may have been a mirage. I agree with your comments on the technical skills but that may provide a good balance of physicality and passing skills.

He is the best defender in the prem nobody is talking about him it is just very strange. He has done the same thing for the City defending as Virgil did for Liverpool when he came. Even City fans are not giving him as much love as I think he deserves. Why do you think Stones are playing so well ,? Dias is controling our defence .Pep has not hired some defence guru it is all Dias he is the best...

I remember Kompany coming in under Hughes and even playing in midfield you knew he was different. He had that aura. Dias has it to and frighteningly he looks even better than Kompany did in those early days. Fingers crossed he can be even half as good as Vincent, because we’ll have a class player on our hands.

I really like Dias and as a character he'll be real important. He's made an excellent start so far and I couldn't be much happier.

Nonetheless, I do think Stones is outclassing him as a defender right now. That's more about Stones than anything though.

Dias is younger than he seems though and new to the league, so he could grow to make big strides forward over the next few seasons and become something real special.
