Best defender in the world. Not because he is the best individually (VVD is superior IMO, and he's on par with some others), not because of his leadership, or his tackles, or his physicality, or his blocks (and they are all superb). He's the best because every single small choice he makes, is always ALWAYS optimal. And a great defender is great because of the small choices (positioning, when to tackle, how to tackle, when to run, when to be aggressive, when to foul, slowing the attack with physical presence...).

Really, watch our highlights, and every time we are being attacked stop the video, analyze where every player is, and think which movement or decision is the best for our defense, and you'll see Dias always makes the best choice. It's like he can see the future and has seen all the probable scenarios. And that's what makes him the best defender in the world.

I wonder if he'll go on to surpass Kompany?
Was just gonna say the same and although unfair to compare, avoiding injuries etc, he could be the best in world football for many years....

Kompany is like the Ali debate, who was never the greatest boxer of all time, however the whole package makes him just that, Vinny is the same, but Diaz will surpass him as a footballer, imo!

as a fellow countryman ill just say that he was never this good in the portuguese league(otamendi, fernando and even mangala looked more dominant here). Dias improved leaps and bounds since he arrived at city, not sure why but credit has to be given to him, pep and his staff

Ali has a clean and clear case for being the best. You need to take into account that he was banned during prime years and then, even his heartbreaking losses came with epic rematches. his late career, after zaire is best forgotten though, he should've stopped then

You see him towards the end grabbing Walker by the shirt and trying to push him into position on one of their corners?

Lol. He's got a lot of balls, especially at his age. Fearless
