3 | Ruben Dias - 2025/26

Depends on his new deal? higher wages could make a future sale more difficult? Imo he needs to focus more on his football and less on his social media profile.
What makes you think he hasnt been concentrating on his football? Everything I've seen or heard of Dias indicates he is the absolute pinnacle of a hardworking professional athlete. Him banging somebody in the public eye doesnt change that in the slightest.

I've seen his football performances get worse as his social media profile increases, it's a shame.

But what makes you connect the two? There's nothing to suggest the two are related. His performances weren't great before he got with his current missus either. He is a dedicated a professional athlete as there is, the idea he would be unprofessional is ridiculous.

And, for what it’s worth, She also has her own life and career and isn’t hanging on him every second of the day. He has plenty of time to bang and be a good footballer. (It’s always the girlfriends that get the crap, when I am not sure the male entourages these players have are any better).

Extending his contract is the same mistake United made with Phil Jones and Chris Smalling.

We won’t be able to sell him at this age and with the level of decline evident on the wages he’ll be getting.

Same happened when he was with the daughter of a Cheshire house wife reality star. He’s won the lot and coasting. Hopefully Khusanov lights a fire in his arse, but nothing is going to make him faster or better in the air. If he wasn’t a supposed ‘leader’ I don’t think he’d get a kick.

I'd say he's very overrated except I'm not sure outside of here is he rated very highly at all.

Seemed OK v. Palermo. Dias lacks pace and that often gets him into trouble. When paired with a pacy CB or winger who can cover for pace, I still rate Dias.

CORRECT.
This idea that having a girlfriend becomes the reason for performance change is a very 'Daily Mail' attitude, where women are blamed for men's shortcomings continually.
He has been an excellent player for us. Too many are judging some individuals too harshly for last season, when it is clear that there were a number of collective failings.
Besides, the season is done. I hope he has a great one, and he and Maya Jama are very happy.

I think that the main problem with Dias is that he lacks pace.

He's OK to excellent on defense mostly, but if a ball is over the top and he needs to recover - he probably won't get there. Paired with a pacy CB and a pacy LB/RB I think he's very good... on his own versus a long ball facing a pacy attacker - he's toast.

Putting his body on the line, making the tackle when needed, he's excellent.

However, for the amount he likes to show off his physique online he gets absolutely bullied by any physical striker in my opinion. If he threw his weight and strength around half as much he'd be something else entirely.

Most defenders acting on their own against pace are toast, but I generally agree.
Pep's teams have always been vulnerable against pacy counter-attacks; it is a natural Achilles' heel for the high defensive line needed to win back possession in the attacking zone. The counter to it is to rule out mistakes while in possession, avoiding turnover, and to press the opponent aggressively so they cannot get out and are forced so deep that a counter attack is almost impossible. If we get those things right this season, the vulnerability we showed last will be consigned to history.

If it was football manager I would get rid of either him or Akanji as they are not the players they were and have not been for a while.

Been a big fan and thought he’d be the next Kompany captain type figure, but he actually seems to have gone backwards. It feels like he hasn’t worked on any of his weaknesses at all and the opposition have him figured out.

Slow, average on the ball, poor in the air and prone to getting bullied by the CFs despite him living in the gym. The injuries have started to pile up too. His whole game is no nonsense defending, leadership and intangibles but that’s not enough.. I wouldn’t be against moving him on next summer if he doesn’t sort himself out this year.

Some wild takes here for me on Father Ruben (comparing him to phil jones!?!?)

He's 28 and coming to his peak years. I thought he actually did a lot of good stuff last season, but he made that mistake at the start of Madrid away and everyone went OTT on it. Now he's going out with maya jama so people are on that too, which I understand cos his form dropped when he was last with some other love island tart, but let's see how this season goes (seen as most players struggled last year)
