3 | Ruben Dias - 2025/26

Currently in South Africa with Mia who is doing something for tv on Love Island ………

Can see three reasons why fans are too critical of Dias.

First, they prefer another player, Stones (when fit) or Khusanov, and are unhappy Dias has been picked instead of him.

Second, they are clueless regarding the actual record with and without Dias since the start of last season. Hint: it's much, much better with Dias than without him.

Third, they don't get the role of leadership, because it's less tangible than blocks, tackles, speed, etc. The perception that Dias is slow overrides his other qualities.

He won't be faultless when he returns, but as a whole we are a better team with him.

No reason why he should be a starter by next season. The contract extension could come good or bad depending on that. Especially with Reis most likely on loan for the 26/27 season again. In terms of overall talent he’s beneath gvardiol, Guehi and Khusanov in my opinion. His biggest weakness , athleticism and air mobility are often killing us. Not a fan of this „ mentality „ or „ general „ thing when he’s our weakest CB. And yes I do respect Dias but I feel like we get exposed with his non existent pace

I can promise you this: under Pep or any other manager, Ruben Dias remains the undisputed first-choice CB. That’s non-negotiable.

I know it’s his first game back but the difference to Khusanov and Guehi was clear. Also hiding from the free kick is insane behaviour when you act like the captain on a ship.

What the hell was that wall. He was the only player actually in the centre of the balls path and actually moved away from it.

Fire the set piece coach or whoever teaches them to defend these, that was way worse than I've seen at high school level.

Don't know what the fuck he was doing for their goal, just stay in the wall and you block it, I do like that he took a shot from distance immediately after coming on and was close, his teammates need to try that sometimes instead of constant sideways passing.

Today really highlighted to me what we’ve missed most while he’s been out, leadership.

We crumble at 1-0 down without him, like we did when Spurs scored last week, or when United went 1-0 up, or when Bodo scored. Dias doesn’t let us crumble.

The mentality of him is on a whole different level to anyone else out there. Sorely missed.
