30 | Claudio Echeverri - 2025/26 (on loan at Leverkeusen)

if the rumours are true about an option to buy…..we are going to eventually find it hard to sign any promising young player (Nypan the exception)

Echeverri looks more than promising….but what a negative signal it sends out if he’s not given a chance.

Hopefully the writing is not on the wall for him already but how many of these young future stars have gone on loan only to be never seen again...in fact have any come back and played a part in our first team regularly?

What is good is that he is potentially going on loan to a top club where he is going to play at a very high level and if he does well there he will either return to play for us or be sold at a considerable profit.

The big thing to think about is that is he good enough to break past the likes of Foden, Cherki, Marmoush, and various others...at present he would have to be truly outstanding to do so and how many youngsters at that point in their careers are ever going to do that...?

I think some people for instance underestimate how good Phil Foden was at 17 years old....Didnt pep say the only youngster he had ever seen better than Foden at 17 was Messi? Im not saying Foden will ever get to the level of Messi (Very few in the next decades will do so...if any) but he was still an outstanding player.....and still is.

Thats the level these youngsters have to get to to make it - and very few ever will.

We are a business and we are making money as well - unfortunately this has to be one way we do.

Everyone wants to see us unearth a superstar but there will only ever be one or two compared to hundreds that dont make it and are moved on.

Edit: I thought Id read Roma was where he was going...if its Girona then they are playing in a top league but not exactly a top team in that league

Viana has said that integrating Academy players is a priority. It would be the natural order of things that Oscar Bobb is the one given the chance and Claudio leaves on loan. I would love both to stay, but players of this quality need game time and both are unlikely to get it in sufficient quantity in a front line of Haaland, Marmoush, Foden, Savinho, Doku, and Cherki.
I don't think that previous examples of players being loaned is worthy of consideration. Firstly, they are not Echeverri, and secondly, we have a new DOF who will do things differently. Other than Perrone, possibly, which of the former loaned players would now command a first-team place?

I'll be disappointed if we loan him, but I'll be extremely disappointed if we loan both him and Bobb and Pep sticks with the uncs for another season. We need Echeverri's fresh energy, hunger and unpredictability in the squad.
Better get ready to be disappointed because that’s what’s gonna probably happen . Gundo will do another year as will arkanji and b silva has been made captain so he will play most games aswell . Have a feeling next season will be more of this season .

I hope we keep it in house at Girona. The press literally can't stand us having any exciting players in the wings and will always do their best to sell them for us. I'm hoping it's more of that

Negative signal that we have brought him over, settled him into the squad and country, got him a loan playing at the top of Serie A at 19 and want to continue his development. Wow!

good loan for him imo, Serie A is ideal place for young Argie to get used to Europe. he will get serious minutes there compared the odd Carabao games at City.
he only has chance to make it at City anyway if he excels on loan.

Ridiculous sending him out on loan, has more talent in his little toe than Savinho in his whole body

Sending him out, and keeping Kovacic and Bernardo is a joke.

Gasperini is a good coach, but we may see him develop and follow the lead of Perrone. Another year of playing time in beautiful surrounds might be preferable to warming the bench and his hands in Manchester eleven.

Or be getting a much improved player back next summer when we have room. Either way it works.

Or sell him like we have most players lauded as the next big thing? We have a conveyor belt it's a business and all he is is an asset.

Bit of a pisser was genuinely looking forward to watching him play this season but ahhh well.

We won't sell him if we think he makes us better, that would be daft ,we aren't daft.
