30 | Claudio Echeverri - 2025/26 (on loan at Leverkeusen)

Echeverri and Reis would already be playing more in the first team if they were at Barca, PSG, or even Real Madrid. Those clubs wouldn’t loan out special young talents like them while still playing past-their-prime players like this. Hope it’s just a nonsense rumor.
Rubbish. Tell that to Endrick, while Modric takes a first team place.
The idea that we are uniquely bad in failing to give opportunities is an absolute myth. I love opportunities for young players, but Reis and Echeverri are 18/19 and brand new to the English game.

Why would Real Madrid loan out a striker that has played 22 matches for them and scored 1 goal? Comparing a midfielder of Modric's calibre to a non firing young striker isn't an example of anything at all.

That isn't the point I am making, the chances of him getting through are remote. Again it's a business and that's all it's about.
Of course he needs to be very good to get into our squad going forward but if he achieves that on his loan there will be spaces opening up next summer. Same with Nypan who I think will come back. That's the difference with previous years when we just didn't have the spaces for the loanees.
If they don't though then we'll make a business decision, but that will be the second choice, business isn't what it's ALL about.

I have no confidence they are getting through, none at all. However they will make money for the project that's for certain.

Getting excited about acquisitions isn't very footbally IMHO.

Nobody really knows what will happen with Echeverri. But what we do know is that in general our record in terms of letting players go has been absolutely fine. With the exception of Palmer, who was a record fee for the academy, I can't think of any/many players who have ever developed into someone good enough to make stake a regular starting spot at City.

The scramble to get kids into the team is generally followed by a scramble to write them off as not good enough (Rico Lewis is the perfect example, and even Palmer when he was at City and started playing a few games).

You've just reiterated what i originally said, it's a business and we are not very good in bringing through long term prospects who stay and become a solid part of the team in spite of the volume of youngsters who come through our doors.

We can always point at Foden and say we can do it if we try, forgive me if I don't get the tattoo and the shirt with their names on my back just yet.

And has proved to be a financially successful part of the overall business plan for the club, so no doubt will continue in the future.

Might not be the sexiest part, but ...................

Absolute rubbish that you would think either would be getting first team chances at any of those teams. How long did it take Diaz to get onto the Real Madrid bench? He signed and what happened .... he went on loan

I think we're fine in terms of bringing players through. The first team isn't a finishing school for players with potential, it is an incredibly competitive environment and therefore only the best will make it. We aren't Brighton.

Which again explains why nobody is rushing out or getting excited about young players who sort of play for us.

Imagine if we had the best academy in the world just how many young players we could bring through to the first team?

Ohh wait..... ;-)

Some football fans (of all clubs) overrate youngsters they like and think all they need is to be given a chance. I happen to think 99% are nowhere near good enough, hence they get farmed out. Bobb, Foden, Lewis, these kids are the exception not the rule.

And I suspect that Palmer's success at Chelsea has made some even more twitchy.

The CFA's footprint across the top leagues in Europe is incredible, and a testament to the quality of scouting/coaching at youth level at the club. It's a bit cringe to talk about "best in the world" because the truth is that there is always an element of luck in how players develop. But you can look at a really big sample size to know what sort of imprint you're making in world football.

Echeverri has shone the couple of games he's played for us.
The first game I saw Palmer, he came on un a dead rubber, scored from outside the box.
Obvious he had self belief. Scored in the Supercopa too.

I think some people are twitchy because we didn't win the league for the first time in five years. Poor little lambs.

There is no evidence of that being the case at all is there? Posters showing concern that young players are being loaned out en masse isn't them being "poor little Lambs", it just means that they are rightly questioning what the club is doing.

But that's fine if you're a thumbs out trust the process say fuck all type of Sheep isn't it?
