30 | Claudio Echeverri - 2025/26 (on loan at Leverkeusen)

I'd be trying to push him towards Lyon.
European football and he can replace cherki so thers is space in the team for him to play regularly

Listen muchachos, I've been doing some research on Girona. They have ex rags Blind and van de beek playing for them, and they are dross. Not sure how good Girona will be for his development.

Roma taking the piss surely - 'we'll take him on loan with an option to buy for €33m but we'll give you a buy back option for €40M'!!

so basically free to them then

works for both? they get a free loan and a cheap (ish) player if deemed good enough, we get a cheap purchase back if he develops into a worldie.

An overlooked fact is not many teams really want to develop an opposition player, the Roma deal might not the best one out there, but far from a piss take!

no way, it can only be a loan without option to buy. he has very high potential. but also needs to play in Europe and get experience which he wont get here next season.

Disappointing to say the least if he goes anywhere. Not to mind with an option to buy.

It's disappointment after disappointment for the past few years. Obviously we've suffered a lot worse but it's just that signing new exciting players only for them to leave because a bunch of our older players are needed to steady the ship but seem more likely to tip it over is so fucking ... disappointing.
It sounds more like we are not very good at moving old players. So easier to just loan out the new guys

I understood why Alvarez left, as he was rarely going to start in the big games and City had just done the Treble. We then retained the PL with Bobb emerging as a serious talent.

It was also a fantastic deal that suited everyone.

Echeverri is different, as he arrived in the middle of a disappointing season, and to such a huge fanfare from the club.

He appeared at Wembley and looked full of energy at Fulham so he's obviously part of some development process.

However, if he was suddenly loaned with an option to buy, then it would add fuel to the argument that the club are buying players who Pep has got no interest in developing.

We have to loan them a player as part of the Cherki deal.
I'm guessing we/ they must have some other player in mind

Maybe I am misunderstanding this but what if Roma sign him for the 33 million because he has just had an incredible season, we then offer 40 million and he says he doesn’t want to come back. Not such a great deal then and we don’t have him under contract.

no, you're paying them to loan your player.
That’s one way of looking at it - but in reality we’re paying then to develop our player, and give him the opportunities we can’t give him next season.

Then if he works out, we buy him back for £7m net - with the fee to Roma as a kicker for their role in giving him the big game experience he needed to develop.

I know it seems unpalatable on the face of it to include an option to buy - but as long as we structure the buy back right, it really isn’t much of a risk.

If we make the deal, it’s because we’ve evaluated that we can’t give him the minutes he needs next season to push on.

In that context, this deal would be a win-win for all parties.

that's true, no guarantee he'd want back.

We can play players < 21 years so why risk losing a player of his quality? We also might struggle to bring in players of this standard if we behave in such a manner. I don't like this transfer. We need to stop using our young players as an economic exercise.

Not in the CL we can’t and he won’t get many games if he stays this season, anyway it’s no risk at all if we don’t want it to be, nor will it be a transfer.
